Get Your Summer Skin Ready: Some of my Favorite Face Mask

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tampa chapter.

Summer is just around the corner and I’m sure you are all looking for the best products to achieve that flawless Summer look. Face-masks have become a part of my weekly routine and I think they are so important for your skin besides a normal face wash routine. Personally, I think that you get the best out of face masks when you use the ones to peel off of your skin. It does take a bit more time out of your day but I think that they do a better job at getting all the impurities out of your skin while leaving a smooth clean finish. Here are just some of my personal favorite face masks, both drugstore, and high end.

1. Freeman’s Cucumber Peel-Off Mask:

I love Freeman’s face masks! They are my ultimate top choice for a drugstore brand face mask that gets the job done! It’s no hit or miss with them since they have so many types of masks, so it’s truly just finding your favorite ones for your skin’s needs. The cucumber one is cooling and gentle and doesn’t hurt to peel off. It takes a while to fully dry, but you can definitely feel the product working and cleaning your skin. It gently removes all the dirt off of your

skin and leaves your face feeling super soft and cool. It’s not necessarily for acne or breakout purposes but its gentle enough to apply onto acne already on your skin. The aloe in it helps to smooth your skin and leaves it feeling calm and relaxed. After a long day in the sun or simply outside during the Summer, this would be the perfect mask to use. It relaxes, moisturizes and gently gets rid of the minor impurities leaving your face feeling smooth and silky.

2. Freeman’s Tea and Lemon Peel-Away Clay Mask

My second favorite Freeman’s mask is the Tea and Lemon Clay Mask. This mask has a very energizing smell and also has the same cooling effect on your skin. It delivers a deeper clean compared to the cucumber mask. For this mask, I generally like to lay on two coats onto my face because the consistency of the mask seems a bit thinner since it is not like a gel mask. It also takes a bit longer to dry until it is ready to peel off. It’s a bit harsher on your skin when removing it because it dries kind of tight on your face. The mask also absorbs a lot of oil on your skin leaving your face with a much deeper clean after using. It tones your skin and leaves your face feeling firm and void of the everyday impurities. I use this mask very rarely since it is a bit rougher on my skin. But it gets the job done of a deeper and better clean from a face mask and helps to clear up any minor imperfections, including those pesky blackheads around your nose! I recommend applying a good moisturizer after peeling it off to maintain your skin’s balance and to prevent an excessive dryness or irritation to your skin.

3. Formula 10.0.6 Get Your Glow On

This brand is sometimes hard to find at your nearest drugstore or CVS. The price usually is around $6 or less. Drugstores tend to not have all of this brand’s products, so you really have to look carefully for this mask in particular. I usually find it at Ulta and sometimes CVS. When in doubt, you can always purchase it online. This face mask is one of my absolute favorites, especially during the summer. It has a fruity smell and leaves your skin feeling smooth and moisturized. It’s a very gentle mask to peel off and it is not extremely harsh on your skin, which is great if you have sensitive skin like me. The name of this mask is no lie, it really does make your skin glow and radiate after using it! It’s definitely one of the most perfect masks to use during the summer. Your skin will literally thank you!

4. Lush Cup O Coffee

We are all guilty of it; passing the Lush store in the mall and gravitating inside because of how good it smells. Then we all do the impulse buys for bath bombs, lotions, and everything else in between. I honestly love all of the face masks at Lush and I usually try new ones each time I go in. I absolutely ADORE Lush’s Cup O Coffee face mask/scrub, and regularly buy it when I need to. For all you coffee lovers out there, this is the mask for you. It comes in two sizes, 5.2 oz ($ 11.95) and 11.4 oz ($22.95). I generally spend the extra money for the bigger size. Some people don’t like the smell of it, but it literally just smells like coffee, which is so appealing to me. It’s not a peel-off face mask, but it gently exfoliates your skin since it has coffee grounds in it. A little product goes a long way with this mask, and for its price, I recommend using it sparingly. To remove the mask, I dampen my hands and gently rub in circles, so that I get a good exfoliation as well. The only con I have about this mask is that it’s kind of messy when removing it because the coffee grounds can literally get everywhere!! But, after the exfoliation, your skin is left feeling soft and smooth with the sweet smell of the coffee. My skin is never irritated after nor is it left feeling dry like some masks tend to do. The coffee rejuvenates your skin and gives it that healthy natural glow and gets rid of tired complexions. It definitely is one of my top recommendations to maintain clear and smooth feeling skin, while waking you up at the same time.

5. Boscia Multi-Masking Medley

I got these masks as a Christmas gift one year and I have never been happier. They come in little sample packs, which is why I was able to try all three, but they sell each individual mask in tubes for around $30. I would get these masks at Ulta or Sephora. They’re all peel-away masks and are a bit hard to remove, only because it’s doing its job. It really pulls out the tiny impurities that can be hiding in your pores which is why I really like them. The three masks are the Green Tea Oil-Control mask, the Luminizing Black Mask, and then the Sake Bright White Mask. I love each of them equally for their own purpose. Personally, I love charcoal masks so the black one is my ultimate favorite out of the three. It helps to remove all the dirt from your skin and really “detoxifies” it leaves your face feeling fresh and renewed. The green tea one is very refreshing for your skin and your pores. It leaves a cooling sensation that relaxes your skin and makes you feel fresh after peeling it away. It controlled my oily skin well in my T-zone where a lot of people have that extra shine, so I love those results from this mask. The white mask will be a great selection for the Summer as it helps to even your skin tone and helps to create a more balanced and brightened skin tone. It’s $18 for the box with all three of them and I think you get an extra black mask. (4 masks total) They come in packs to squeeze the product out, so it can be a bit messy. Once again, a little goes a long way with this product. I recommend maybe getting the sample box first so you can find the one you like the best, and then purchase a

bigger tube of it. Doing face masks too often can eventually dry out your skin, which is why I think the trio box is a better bang for your buck since you should only use these masks occasionally.
