This week’s Campus Celebrity is not only actively involved on campus, but a warm welcoming individual with a child-like (not childish) persona. If you haven’t already, you should definitely take the time to meet Donny Murray!

Donny is 19 years old, majoring in Marketing/Management and is from Fort Worth, Texas. Only a sophomore, Donny is already filling some big roles. He is the Editor-in-chief of the Moroccan school yearbook, graphic designer for the UT Wellness Department, Logistics Chair for Relay Life, and a member of Delta Sigma Pi: Business fraternity. In his free time Donny likes to run, take photos, go to food trucks, travel, and listen to music.

“I actually like that the school doesn’t have a football team,” says Donny when asked what his favorite thing at UT is. “I like people are focused on other things that are more important. Sometimes school spirit can be really in your face.”

As for his least favorite thing at UT, “I think we spend an excessive amount of money of things we don’t need like palm trees.”

For any other students with a busy schedule, and trying to juggle both academics and a social life, here are two infamous words of wisdom— time management. It’s about knowing, “how much time you’re willing to give. Taking time for yourself and learning to say no,” Donny adds.

Being a busy student does not mean you have to sacrifice time with your friends. Have a plan! Make sure you’re using your time wisely. I’ve heard Google Calendar helps a lot. “I use that religiously,” Donny said.

Donny’s dream job is to run a business, one where he can see the substantial growth, and how it is changing the world. He wants to be active and create a positive change in society. In five years, he hopes to stay in Tampa and become involved in planning some events for the city.

“It doesn’t really matter where I am,” he says, “Being content with your work and loving what you do is what’s important.”

So how does Donny accomplish so much, and see the bigger picture? His motto: stay child-like! British writer, Aldous Huxley once said, “a child-like man is not a man whose development has been arrested; on the contrary, he is a man who has given himself a chance of continuing to develop long after most adults have muffled themselves in the cocoon of middle-aged habit and convention.”
