A Healthy Eating and Drinking Guide For Busy Utampa Students

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tampa chapter.

Let’s be honest here- staying healthy in college is extremely difficult. It is SO easy for college students at Utampa to fall into unhealthy eating and drinking habits. The dining halls offer limited nutrients in their food, and most students begin to indulge in fast food and excessive drinking. But what if I told you that eating clean in college wasn’t entirely impossible? Here are some easy and effective ways to eat clean in the duration of your college years.

  1. Ignore the temptation of delivering food.

Let’s be real- the food in college dining halls is not exactly ideal. Now with apps like Doordash and UberEats, college students can order fast food easily. This can be one of the worst habits for college students to develop. Limit yourself to ordering food to once a week, or once a month, depending on how devoted you are to your health.

  1. Limit Snacking-

Since the dining hall food is not exactly the best, students also develop some serious snacking habits. Although having a snack every once in a while is fine, living off of junk food is extremely unhealthy and offers no proper nutrients. Limit yourself to one snack a day to avoid excessive snacking.

  1. Avoid excessive drinking

College students drink and party a lot. Especially at Utampa, people are constantly clubbing or going out to frats. Some people even party up to five days a week! Although drinking and partying is super fun, excessive drinking can be very bad for the health of college students. To drink healthier, limit yourself to one to two drinks a night to avoid hangovers and a damaged liver!

  1. Fresh Creations is your new best friend

Fresh creations offer very nutritious options to students. From vegan protein salads to yogurt parfaits, this restaurant offers college students healthy options. Instead of getting a cheeseburger and fries at the grill, consider a healthy salad from Fresh Creations instead.

  1. Stay super hydrated!

Not drinking enough water, especially in Florida, will cause your skin to be dry and your health to have deteriorated. Tampa is in a very tropical environment, so its very important for students to stay hydrated. Dry to drink at least 5 water bottles full of water a day. If your pee isn’t clear you’re not drinking enough water!
