Did Ezria Have Something To Do With Charlotte’s Murder?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Syracuse chapter.

In last week’s episode of Pretty Little Liars— Charlotte’s Web, a lot went down. Less than 24 hours after Alison’s formerly estranged sister Charlotte was released from the hospital, she was found dead. Initially, her death was ruled as a suicide. However, after another day’s worth of investigation by Rosewood police, Charlotte’s death was confirmed as a homicide— her neck had apparently been snapped before she was thrown from the church’s bell tower. The murderer has not yet been revealed because of course PLL needs a whole season to do that, but a lot of clues sure point to Ezra and Aria!

Clues that point to Aria:

  1. “I Don’t Feel Safe” – During the court date that would determine Charlotte’s destiny (on whether she would stay in the hospital or be released), Aria’s testimony was the one that stood out. Alison has practically begged everyone to say that they would be fine and feel safe if Charlotte was let out, despite the torture she had put them through for years. Everyone agreed. Aria was the only one that didn’t conform, expressing her true feelings about Charlotte and telling the judge she did in fact fear for her safety.
  2. Aria jets out of Rosewood – With Charlotte’s death as the new topic of conversation and mystery, the other Liars put their lives on hold to stay in Rosewood. Part of it was to be there for Alison and the other half was because they would likely be asked by the police to come in for questioning. Nevertheless, Aria left Rosewood rather quickly despite her friends telling her she should stay, claiming her boss needed her back at work. She also declines all of Ali’s calls once she’s back in Boston.
  3. Aria leaves the hotel in the middle of the night – Of course the Liars would be the first unofficial suspects in the eyes of Rosewood police when an incident like this occurs, but it wouldn’t matter if everyone had been in the hotel room the night of Charlotte’s death right? Before she left to go back to Boston, Aria herself claimed no one had anything to worry about because “no one left the hotel that night.” This was Aria’s first lie because she was in fact the only one who left the hotel, conveniently between the same time of Charlotte’s death
  4. Aria’s story doesn’t match up; she tries to confuse Hanna – When confronted by Hanna on why she lied about not leaving the hotel, Aria tells her it was to briefly run to her car. This would take no more than 15 minutes max, but Hanna -who had tried to stay up to wait for Aria to get back – didn’t see her return because Aria was out for much, much longer than that. When Hanna tells Aria she couldn’t have been out for only 15 minutes, Aria tries to confuse Hanna by telling her she’s remembering it wrong, which may be a result of her being so drunk she threw up. However, Hanna set her straight, told her she wasn’t that drunk and that Emily had been the one vomiting, not her. Hmm.. Aria is definitely playing tricks.
  5. Aria tries to erase Ezra’s memory – “We didn’t see each other the night that charlotte was killed. You didn’t call me. I didn’t leave the hotel. We didn’t walk or talk or go anywhere. Understood?” This in itself is enough to make Aria a suspect. Why did she feel compelled to brainwash Ezra, what was she really up to that night?

Clues that point to Aria:

  1. Both met up at the hotel the night of the death– In the middle of the night before the time of Charlotte’s murder, security cameras show Ezra and Aria talking in the hotel lobby before leaving together. So much for Aria going to grab something from her car.. guess she grabbed Ezra!
  2. They Saw Charlotte on their night out– While gone for what turned out to be a night stroll – because Aria couldn’t sleep due to the court case and Charlotte’s release – the two spotted Charlotte “lurking in the shadows”, as Aria phrased it, shortly before her death.

Clues that point to Ezra:

  1. Ezra was angry about Charlotte being free – Ezra seemed very angry when he saw Charlotte. If looks could kill Charlotte would have been dead.. before she actually was dead. Through his teeth he said aloud “Thats the kind of world we live in. People like Nicole disappear and Charlotte gets to walk free.” Ezra was obviously disgruntled and he didn’t do a good job at hiding it at all.
  2. Ezra made Aria go back to the hotel– What made things worse, was that he hastily put Aria in taxi and told her she should get back to the hotel.
  3. Didn’t seem like himself; Didn’t look Aria in the eyes– When Aria came back to Rosewood to speak to Ezra about his book, he didn’t seem like himself. His house was mess as if he was distraught and his behavior was just odd. Before leaving, Aria asked where did he go that night after she left. He dully responded: “Home Aria. I went home.” He sipped his drink and refused to make eye contact. Aria later noted that she knows Ezra, and when he’s lying he doesn’t look her in the eyes. Uh-Oh Ezra…
  4. Ezra read Spencer’s paper; Charlotte’s death very similar – The way Charlotte was found dead was synonymous to the death of the female newlywed that Spencer wrote a paper about for her criminology class in college. Apparently, Ezra had read this paper. Spencer told the other girls that during a lunch with Ezra a few years ago she had just written her paper and then told him about the case in detail. Spencer stated that it wouldn’t be a “big leap” to name Ezra a suspect in Charlotte’s murder, because by giving him her paper, she “told him how to do it.” Sheesh!

These clues are no joke! I guess we’ll have to see how everything turns out. Tune in to Pretty Little Liars, Tuesdays at 8pm Eastern on Freeform (previously known as ABC Family).
