What has it been like as an announcer in the Dome this year?

Being born and raised in Syracuse, I have been going to games in the Dome since before I can remember and it is still, to this day, a place unlike any other.  Having the ability to be a part of the games as an announcer this year has been more than I could’ve dreamed.  It’s not just the incredible people I work with in the Marketing Department or the talented players who have made the games so entertaining, but a huge part of my experience has been made by the fans.  Being able to interact with them through my job has made me understand what the saying “Bleed Orange” really means.

It must be nerve-racking to talk in front of so many people! How do you stay so collected?

It’s really funny because I’m actually less nervous announcing in the Dome in front of 35,000+ people than when I’m giving a presentation to a class of 15 students.  It’s all about the adrenaline rush and the energy from the fans.  People I’m interacting with in the crowd are usually so excited that it’s really easy to get just as excited for them and have a lot of fun!

Tell us a little bit about your ‘Duke Weekend’ experience and what it was like in the Dome during the game. What was your favorite moment?

The “Duke Weekend” could even be considered the “Duke Week”!  With ESPN coming and people making plans to tent out and practically buying out Manny’s, the hype was contagious and totally unavoidable.  The weekend was incredible with lots of alumni, friends and family coming back here, even if they didn’t have tickets yet.  The Dome was electric – from the second I walked in it was louder and more energetic than I’d ever felt it before.  When I was announcing courtside and from the student’s section, it was even hard to hear my own thoughts!  But one of my favorite moments was when I announced with one of the contest winners who was sitting all the way in the backcourt on the opposite side of the Dome – the crowd over there in those seats could barely see the court but they were still as loud, if not louder, than the people close to the court.  It was amazing to see that kind of dedication.
