The Syracuse University campus is set to receive some exciting visitors this February. Indie film director Scott Coffey has chosen our campus as the setting for his newest film, Adult World, starring Emma Roberts, along with Red Riding Hood actor Shiloh Fernandez, and Raising Helen star Shannon Woodward. Roberts’ character, a recent graduate of Stanford with a degree in poetry, faces some grueling post-grad issues due to today’s rough economy. After having her poetry rejected by numerous NYC magazines, the young graduate is forced to take a job at a low budget pornography store. Filming begins in Syracuse February 3rd, and will continue until the first of March. The choice to film here at Syracuse seems to adequately complement the message of the film, as Roberts said of the subject matter, “It’s very relevant for young people who are asking themselves, ‘What do we do?” That question is one asked by many Syracuse students on a daily basis. Luckily for some, executives from the film, including well-known producer Summer Shelton, have been holding information sessions over the past few weeks for Syracuse University students who want to get involved in production. Dozens of Syracuse hopefuls handed over their resumes to be considered as interns, and even more applied to be extras in the cast. So, keep an eye out for the stars and cameras around campus this month! And next year, when looking for a good movie to see on a Friday night, consider checking out Adult World, where you’ll may even some of your friends hanging out in the back of scenes. Ah, won’t mom and dad be proud.Â
