I was scrolling on Twitter the other day when I came across this tweet:
That’s right. You can now register to vote at Ariana Grande concerts.
Ariana’s Sweetener World Tour began this past Monday, March 18th, in Albany, New York, and will continue through the end of June. She announced a few days before opening night that she is partnering with HeadCount, a “non-partisan organization that uses the power of music to register voters and promote participation in democracy” (source), to design #thankunextgen, “a program to help Ariana’s fans make their voices heard,” the organization said on Twitter.
You may be thinking that a good portion of Ariana’s fan base is not of age to vote, but Ariana is always one step ahead. Fans can text ARIANA to 40649 to register, volunteer, contact legislators or get a reminder on their 18th birthday to register to vote.
Grande has cleverly established #ThankUNextGen as the campaign hashtag and has developed fun plays on her own lyrics to encourage participation:
Headcount has previously partnered with other music artists such as Jay-Z and the Dave Matthews Band. If you’re interested in volunteering at one of her shows to help register attendees to vote, you can sign up here. Tweet us what you think about Ariana Grande’s new initiative: @HCSusquehanna!
