Organization can be a tricky thing for some people, and without the proper tools and tricks it can very well seem impossible. Speaking from personal experience, being properly organized can help with time management, keeping grades up, and balancing a healthy social life. There are many ways to become organized, and these methods will truly change your life for the better. Some of my favorite methods include having a planner for long-term assignments and due dates, and also keeping a day-to-day planner for your more simple tasks.

For me personally, I know that keeping a monthly planner works best. At the beginning of each semester, I will go through my all of my syllabi and my planner and write down all the important due dates, such as exams and major papers/assignments. This way there are no upsetting surprises in the near future. In addition to a monthly calendar, my planner also has a day-to-day option. Each day has three separate blocks of sections. In the first block I usually put general things that need to be done throughout the day, such as errands, cleaning, classes that I need to go to, and other things like that. In the second block, I usually put what homework absolutely needs to be done for that night. And last but not least, in the third little block, I usually put what workout I plan on doing for that day (if any ?).

Personally, I like to make these tasks like a checklist because it is extremely satisfying to see little (or big) accomplishments being checked off as completed. It truly does make you feel better about yourself and make you feel like a giant weight has been lifted off of your shoulders.

Even though I do have a planner and I try to the best of my ability to stay on top of things and to use it all the time, there are times where I find myself going weeks without actually using it, and this is truly when things start to spiral out of control and I tend to get extremely stressed out. So the moral of the story is that using a planner can make the biggest difference in your life (for the better), and in your mental and physical health.
