This one goes out to all of you upcoming freshmen who are worried about your first year of school. I was scared and unsure of the new environment and the people I was about to meet. Everything was so big and so new, it all just seemed like too much. This, however, was just a temporary feeling that lasted about… 2 days. Seems short lived right? Well it was, but if you’re like I was you’re going to want to see this piece through.

On the second day of freshman year, I decided it was time to get to know the people in my hallway. My roommate at the time had known some girls from a group-chat we were all in (join every group possible to make friends!) so we decided to go visit them. These girls became two of my very best friends here on campus, and I wouldn’t change a single thing about that day.

As the story goes, I slid into their room with a towel on my head and a softball bat in my hands. Why the props, I’m not sure. But this apparently wasn’t enough to scare them away. We got to talking about our likes and dislikes, where we were from, and things of the sort. It was clear that I had found two lifelong friends within my first days at college.

Since then, we have been to each other’s houses, gone on plenty of adventures, and so much more. These first few days that you’re at school are nothing short of terrifying. But if you make that first move and become the extrovert, you will find someone to share the experience with. Communication is a crucial part of your transition into this new world so don’t be afraid to be you and use your voice! Make a friend, share secrets, laugh, cry, all the things you need to help yourself feel safer during your transition period.

To the girls that did this for me, I can’t thank you enough. You both came into my life at such a crucial moment and I am forever grateful for everything you’ve done for me. I love you both with my whole heart and will always be here to make you laugh when you’re sad or cry along with you (we do that sometimes). Forever and always, The Best Triple.
