A Gift Guide for the Men in Your Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Susqu chapter.

I know it is only the beginning of December, but before you know it it’ll be time to give gifts to your loved ones. The gifts that are always difficult to buy is gifts for the men in your life. Men usually buy what the need when they need it, or they want gifts that are way out of a college kid’s budget. Whether it is your dad, brother, boyfriend, or grandpa you’re shopping for, I’m here to help you.

Their Favorite Booze

Price: $

A gift that most people will enjoy is their favorite booze with a bow on top. I know my dad’s favorite is Captain Morgan and I think putting it under the tree would make him so happy. If you buy this gift, it’s usually pretty cheap, you know they’re going to like it, and they may even share it with you…if you’re 21 of course. It also doesn’t require fancy decorations. Stick it in a bag or just add a gift tag and you’re done. Boom.

A DVD set of their favorite TV show

Price: $$

If you’re buying for an older generation like a dad, uncle, or grandpa, this will be perfect. Being in an older generation, those family members may not be into Netflix or Hulu and their favorite show from the past might be off the air. I know my grandpa loves M.A.S.H and he got a box set for Christmas. That show has reruns, but it’s just not the same. You can also get a favorite movie or a bunch of movies if they don’t have a favorite or they already own a set. This is also easy to package because you can put them into a bag or you can wrap them with one piece of paper.

A New Cologne

Price: $-$$$

Cologne is perfect for any man. If it’s a boyfriend you can get a scent you like, and he’ll wear it on your dates and it’s beneficial for both of you. If it’s your brother you can buy him cologne to make him smell less and it’s a gift he’d never buy himself, but he’d appreciate and use. For the older men in your life they usually have a signature scent. You can buy them a backup or a fresh bottle. It’s convenient for them and you know it’s something they’ll use. Cologne is easy to package up for the holidays, but it can be expensive. Depending on where you get it, it can cost twelve dollars all the way to a hundred. Make sure you research prices and wait for sales. Also, don’t be afraid to look at stores that Bath and Body Works. Their men’s section smells amazing.

Tickets

Price: $-$$$

Depending on the type of male in your life, a ticket can be universally good. If the guy you’re trying to buy for likes hockey, baseball, etc. get him a ticket to a sporting event. You could even buy two to have him take a friend or you along. If the guy likes a certain band you can also get tickets to a show in your state. Again, get another ticket for a friend or for yourself. It’s nice for a date idea with a boyfriend or a nice binding experience with a father. Tickets can vary in price depending on how well know a team or band is and how large of a venue it is. Do some research before jumping the gun on a certain set of tickets, there are plenty of deals out there.

An Accessory

Price: $$

The classic dad gift is getting them a tie. Now if your dad is like my dad, you’ve never seen them wear a tie as long as you’ve been alive. Instead, try a watch, a wallet, a belt, etc. Accessories are great for men because it’s something they never want to buy themselves. They see the new car part and new tool and want that instead of the necessary items. How many times have you seen that guy in your life pull out a ratty wallet? Too many times. Belts also wear down fast if they wear them daily. Accessories are a great gift that they will definitely use at some point. Sales are always happening at department store, so check there first.
