I think I can speak for everyone when I say that this pandemic has taken a toll on all of us. 2020 has not been a good year, and I am happy that it is finally coming to an end in a little over a month. It seems like bad news has been the new normal throughout the past year, and I’m ready for that to change. The only good that has come out of this year is the people I have grown closer to, and I am truly grateful for that.

You’re probably thinking, “Kaitlyn? How have you gotten closer to people when we are in a pandemic and should be social distancing?” That’s a great question! During the pandemic, I worked as an EMT in my hometown. I was able to grow closer to my coworkers because we were all going through the same problems and fears. I worked as much as could, even with my college schedule, to help out my community. I am happy that I was able to grow closer with my coworkers because now I look forward to going to work whenever I am scheduled. I love my job and all that comes with it. This pandemic has helped me gain more experience for my future as well.

When I wasn’t at work, I was with my family. I have always been grateful for my family, but even though the year has been weird for all of us, we were able to become even closer. The countless movie nights and family dinner were what made lockdown bearable. We were able to get through each day together in hopes for better to come. Thank you to my parents and brother for bringing about the positive things in my 2020.

Towards the end of this year, in September, I was able to go back to college. I was able to get out of my small town to continue my education. I was happy to start spending every day with my friends since I barely got to see them throughout the lockdown in the spring and summer. I have made some amazing friends throughout my college career, and I don’t know where I would be without them. We push each other to do well, and I am truly thankful for them every day.

This year has been insane with the changes happening constantly. I will stay grateful and continue to look on the bright side of things because that is all I can do. I continue to stay positive and hope for the best. For the person that is reading this article, I suggest you look on the bright side too. Look for the light amongst the storm, and stick with it. Happy November! Stay healthy and safe!
