Music Blog: Sing Your Way into Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Suffolk chapter.

Well folks, it’s that time of the year again. Springtime! This time of the year is by far the best for all things music. It’s when you can start taking more leisurely walks to class, and playing some key tunes in the car with the windows open. Finally! Here are some tunes that have just enough power to lift that winter dread and put that pep in your step as warmer temperatures and sunny days make their way back into our daily routines!
Happy listening!

“People Can Do the Most Amazing Things (Dye Remix)” by Kisses: Kisses is a duo of L.A. natives who bring listeners this refreshing and spacey tune. To top it off, you can even dance to it!

“Quarry Hymns” by Land of Talk: Lead by front woman Elizabeth Powell (a former member of Broken Social Scene), Land of Talk is back with this tune from their sophomore album, “Cloak and Cipher.”

“Harvest Moon” by Poolside: Not just anyone could pull off a Neil Young song. However, this L.A. based band known as Poolside turned the once country song into a rendition of their own.

“Let Me Turn You On” by Biz Markie: Biz Markie captured most of our hearts with his 1989 classic, “Just a Friend,” and “Let Me Turn You On” will have you instantly turned on.

“I Can Change” by LCD Soundsystem:  James Murphy has done it again. “I Can Change” is the perfect song to have blasting on a boombox whilst swimming in your backyard or sunbathing on the beach. Listening to this song more and more, it doesn’t cease to amaze. This song should be at the top of any spring playlist.

“Temptation (7” Edit)” by New Order: Living in Boston, sometimes the weather can put you in a really dreary mood. However, once this song hits a pair of speakers you’ll be dancing in seconds.

“Brand New Start” by Little Joy: “Take advantage of the season to take off your overcoat.” Yep, this song pretty much speaks for itself.

“Get Some” by Lykke Li: There’s so much to say about this song, yet so little. Known as Lykke Li, this Swedish seductress paints the perfect picture of what it really means to aggressively like someone. I mean, come on, she declares herself a  “prostitute” in this song!

“Polish Girl” by Neon Indian: Neon Indian’s first single from their sophomore album “Era Extrana” might be about a failed relationship, but hey, we can’t all help but dance at someone else’s expense, right?

“Sunlight” by Bag Raiders: Hands down, one of the best songs I have heard in a while. I just couldn’t help, but share it here with everyone (plus the music video involves the cutest human-monkey couple ever)!

“Roses” by Outkast: It shouldn’t shock anyone that an Outkast song has made it on to a Spring playlist. “Roses” has the ability to not only make you want to sing at the top of your lungs, but it also gives anyone get that urge to dance.
