How To Stay Organized This Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Suffolk chapter.

Papers are being assigned, tests are being taken, and stress levels are at an all time high. What does all of this mean? It means that school is officially back and second semester is in full swing! With all the weekly assignments, club meetings, and work hours, it can seem impossible to juggle a busy schedule and still manage to have a social life. However, all that stress can be minimized with a little bit of help from a friend: organization! Here are a few tips for staying organized this semester!

Tip #1: Buy a Planner

One of the easiest, most efficient ways to stay organized and on top of things this semester is to invest in a planner! Planners are perfect for writing down assignments & due dates, keeping track of meetings & appointments, and a place to keep your schedule. If you’re super into planning, you could invest in an Erin Condren or a Lily Pulitzer. If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative, Target has some of the best planners! Also, if planning isn’t your cup of tea, a wall calendar or the calendar in your phone make for great reminders of important dates!

Tip #2: Use Sticky notes + Highlighters

Head to your local office supply store and pick up some sticky notes and highlighters! Sometimes planners can look overwhelming with so much written down inside. Sticky notes are great for writing down urgent reminders ; things you specifically can’t forget. Highlighters make it easy to differentiate what assignments belong to each class or what meeting times belong to which club. If you’re not a fan of sticky notes and highlighters, the reminder app on your phone is a great alternative!

Tip #3: Make To Do Lists

Sure you can write your assignments down and remind yourself to do them, but how can ensure you get them all done in a timely fashion? Make a to-do list! Write down all your assignments for the week with their due dates and any other tasks you may have, and prioritize which ones need to get done first in order to make sure everything gets done on time. You can buy a fun to-do list at target, or use journal paper! Even the notes section in your phone is a great place for this!

Tip #4: Clean Your Room

It is definitely easier to focus on assignments and accomplish tasks when your space is organized! There’s something about a clean space that makes me feel like I can accomplish anything. Even little things like making your bed and picking up clothes off the floor can help focus your mind and keep you organized!
