How To Celebrate International Women’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Suffolk chapter.

Step 1 – Sit down with your mom and grandma and let them share some of the highlights of their lives with you. We often take their knowledge and experiences for granted when we should really be learning from what they’ve been through and appreciating all that they’ve done so we can have the best life.

Step 2 – Appreciate art done by women. Visit a local art museum and embrace everything from Frida Kahlo, to Georgia O’Keefe, sometimes we overlook these artistic women! These strong women used their art to express their emotions. Let it inspire you to use different methods to express yourself. Let people hear you, not just with your voice.

Step 3 – Re-read your favorite book by an amazing women author. It’s been a while and today is as good a day as any to re-read those amazing words! There’s always that one book that touches you differently, it has more power behind the words, you feel the emotion that was put into it when being written. Appreciate all that the author has put in to create such moving words!

Step 4 – Learn about some amazing women who came from your school. It can be easy to forget how much you can really get out of a education, so why not let those who came before you inspire you and re-motivate you to finish the year strong! It’s never too late to change your path, and who knows, some of these women might have been in your same spot.

Step 5 – Appreciate yourself. You are a strong independent woman who has a lot to offer the world. Never forget that you are capable of anything you set your mind to. You can change the world for the better, you just have to take the first step!
