When searching for the perfect hair care products, quality and price become my main concern. Often, people associate high price with high quality. However, there are some who rave about expensive hair care products, while others swear by products found at their local drug store.

As someone who has color-treated, dry, and thick hair,  I’m very careful with which hair products I use. Replenishing my hair moisture becomes my main concern. I also like to keep in mind what ingredients are actually inside of the product, as I tend to be wary of too many chemical ingredients.

I tested out two products: “Garnier Whole Blends Honey Treasures Repairing Mask” which can be found at your local drugstore and “BRIOGEO Don’t Despair, Repair!™ Honey Moisture Deep Conditioning Mask” which can be purchased at Sephora. The Garnier mask is rated 4.6 stars on the Target website, while the BRIOGEO mask is also rated 4.6 stars by Sephora customers online. For a 10.1 Fl Oz container, the Garnier mask is $5.41 at Target, while the BRIOGEO mask is $36.00 at Sephora for 8 Fl Oz. Obviously, this is a significant price difference for products that both claim to do the same thing: replenish damaged and dry hair. Since both are rated the same in customer reviews and include the same main ingredient of honey, I felt that these two products would be comparable when determining if Sephora products are actually of higher quality.

Garnier Whole Blends Honey Treasures Repairing Mask

My thoughts: WOW! I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this mask, it completely exceeded my expectations. After one use, my hair felt softer and shinier. The smell is also incredible. It’s a very sweet and warm scent, perfect for the fall and wintertime. The overall consistency of this mask is very thick, feeling almost like heavy cream. It really penetrates moisture deep into the hair follicle, particularly at the ends, which are prone to being drier. For $5.41, it’s a steal!

BRIOGEO Don’t Despair, Repair!™ Honey Moisture Deep Conditioning Mask”

My thoughts: Honestly, I expected so much more, for something that costs so much more! The quality of the mask was not necessarily bad, rather merely okay. It left my hair feeling moisturized, but not soft or glossy in the way that the Garnier mask did. The scent was fairly similar to the Garnier mask, though it did not seem to last as long throughout the day. This mask’s results seem to be more “drug store quality” than the actual drug store mask itself.

Overall, don’t judge a product by its price tag! As someone who loves indulging at Sephora, I was alarmed to see how amazing the quality of the drug store mask was and even better: the price. I will definitely think twice about purchasing a hair care product at Sephora, as it is very possible that the drug store dupe can be better (AND CHEAPER!!) than the real thing.
