Fall Lipstick Trends 2014

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Suffolk chapter.

Cue the pumpkin spice lattes and bring out your cozy sweaters because it’s officially fall!  Every girl knows that each season means a trendy new color palette in all the things that we love, most especially lipsticks.

Fall is the ultimate season for dark lipstick shades.  Deep plum, rich wine and vampy burgundy rock the streets.  These colors are perfect for transitioning into the cooler weather. Don’t be afraid of these dramatic colors empowering your face.  Minimize eye makeup and let these shades be your statement piece!

Try: MAC Viva Glam III ($16), Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in “Red Velvet” ($6), Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in “Vampira” ($21), Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in “Venom” ($22)

Tip: Rub the edges of your lips with a cotton swab after applying lipstick so that the color “blends” into your skin and gives a more natural finish.

If wearing deep shades of lipstick isn’t really your thing, don’t fret.  Natural earth tones like soft browns and warm nudes are also stylish this season, creating a key touch to effortless style.

Try: Givenchy Le Rouge Lipstick in “Rose Ruben” ($36), Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense in #28 ($20), Sephora Collection Glossy Lip Pencil in “Pale Pink” ($10), NARS Sheer Lipstick in “Cruising” ($26)

As great as it is to make a bold statement with burgundy, or keep it simple with neutrals, nothing beats classic red lips!  And with red lipsticks being a staple every fall season, a really good red lipstick is definitely a worthwhile investment.

Try: Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick in “Mayfair Red Lady” ($7), Dior Rouge Dior in “Trafalgar” ($35), MAC “Ruby Woo” ($16), NARS “Heat Wave” ($26)

No matter what your color preference may be – whether you like to play it dramatic with bold colors, keep it soft with nudes, or if you’re just a red lipstick lover – this fall’s moody vibe has the perfect shade of lipstick to suit every trendsetter’s liking!
