A handful of Suffolk students move into East Boston during their junior and senior years,
so if you’re one of them, I’m going to give you a breakdown of the best restaurants in the area. I
have only been in the area for roughly a year, but that has given me enough time to explore the
neighborhood and find these gems. I’m here to share them with you, and you won’t want to miss
out on them.
- Taqueria Jalisco on Bennington St. –
Starting strong with this Mexican restaurant. They have the best birria tacos you
will have in your entire life. It’s roughly eighteen dollars for three, and they give
you cilantro, red onion, pickled onions, red hot sauce, green sauce, and, of course,
the beef consommé. They also have a variety of tacos, burritos, and plates that you
can choose from if you’re not feeling birria. They also have Tres leches for a nice
sweet treat afterwards (it’s delicious), flan, churros, and a few other desserts. - Koro Ramen & Sushi on Sumner St. –
This has been my go-to spot whenever I’m feeling under the weather or when I’m
craving ramen. They have a huge sushi menu where you can find classic rolls like
spicy tuna, eel, and California, but they also have specialty rolls such as their
“Eastie Roll” that has breaded soft-shell crab, cucumber, avocado, black and
orange tobiko, spicy mayo, and teriyaki sauce. However, their ramen is definitely
my favorite. They offer short rib, spicy house, miso, and you can also make your
own ramen, which is what I do. - Hong Kong Harbor in Maverick Square –
A classic Chinese food option right next to the Maverick station. Their beef lo
mein is my favorite right now. When I’m not in the mood to cook, I just walk
down to Hong Kong Harbor for a good meal. They have a huge menu with all
your typical Chinese options like varieties of fried rice, lo mein, vegetables, crab
rangoon, scallion pancakes, and soups. - Dirty Water Dough Company on Maverick St. –
I used to DoorDash their pizza when I was living in the Suffolk dorms, but now
that I live next to one of their locations, they’re only a short walk from my
apartment. Their menu is full of different pizzas, like BBQ chicken, taco, meat
lovers, and more. Some of their sandwiches are BLT, steak, and chicken with
yummy toppings. They have Caesar, garden, and caprese salads, along with
others. Their appetizers, like onion rings, fries, meatballs, and more, are a must
when ordering pizza. - Toasted Flats on Chelsea St. –
This is a great option for a quick bite: lunch or breakfast. Their dishes are served
on flatbread (hence the name), and they have a pretty good variety to choose
from. Their smoothies are delicious, with a handful to choose from, whether you
are more of a berry-type person or citrus-type; you can also substitute or add
items like protein powder, peanut butter, and more to them. Their iced drinks are
also delicious, serving coffee, matcha, chai, and juice, so there is something for
everybody.
