Different Directions for Zayn and Harry

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Suffolk chapter.

I’ll be the first to admit I was never a One Directioner. Hate on me for it if you will, I just never could really get into the boy band. I did catch myself singing along in the car to “Kiss You” and “Rock Me” a couple of times…

Anyway, we all know now that Zayn Malik (the hottest member, in my opinion) left the group in March of 2015. As of this year, the remaining members are on hiatus. This doesn’t bother me personally, but I know many 1D fans are devastated. While I’m not a huge fan of the group, I totally realize that they’re all talented.  After all, they won the X Factor, which was the start to their fame. Now that they’re all doing their own thing, I have to admit I’m kind of excited to hear what they can do as individual musicians.

Zayn, who left the group for good, just released his song “Pillow Talk” and a corresponding music video featuring the ever amazing Gigi Hadid (his girlfriend at the moment). While I’m not a fan of Zayn’s blonde hair, I do have to give him credit for the song and cool, trippy, and sexy video. As someone who wasn’t influenced by 1D, I think the song is really good. Zayn’s voice is great and the song is catchy. Even more than that, I am pretty much in love with the living room session acoustic version on Spotify. Slowing down the song Zayn’s voice on this track is really beautiful and makes me more attracted to him, even with the blonde hair.

Zayne has not been part of 1D for almost a year now and has already released good music, and Harry Styles is expected to be releasing some killer stuff too. Four song titles of Harry’s have been released – “5378 Miles,” “Already Home,” “Coco” and Endlessly”.  We’re still waiting to hear them, but they have been written and recorded in some form, with help from artists like Gary Go and John McDaid of Snow Patrol.

It’s not released when Harry with share these songs with us, but we’ll have to see how they compare to 1D and to Zayn’s solo career. I have a feeling there might be some competition between the two. At the moment I’m thinking I’ll probably stay team Zayn, but only time will tell.
