Thanksgiving is a holiday meant for spending time with loved ones, giving thanks, eating delicious comfort food, and avoiding too many quarrels at the dinner table. The fourth Thursday of every November is dedicated to Thanksgiving, but the weekend following this humbling holiday is devoted to the biggest events of the year: Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Markdowns are as low as ever and are only available for a short period of time. Though many people enjoy waking up early the Friday after Thanksgiving and shopping til’ they drop at the mall, most of the in-store sales are available online. Based on their 2018 sales, the best stores for each of these main shopping categories are:

For Tech:

  • Amazon

  • BestBuy

  • Target

  • Walmart

For Shoes/Clothing:

  • Anthropologie

  • Express

  • H&M

  • Macy’s

  • Nasty Gal

  • Nordstrom/Nordstrom Rack

  • Reformation

  • Saks Off 5th

  • Sam Edelman

  • TopShop

  • Zara

For High-End Items:

  • Bloomingdale’s

  • FarFetch

  • FWRD

  • Luisa Via Roma

  • Net-a-Porter

  • Shopbop

Many people online shop during the holiday season like it is an NCAA Division 1 sport. They prepare weeks in advance and go into Thanksgiving weekend with a strategic game plan to score themselves the best deals. To strategically shop this Thanksgiving, here are some wallet-friendly tips:

Black Friday/Cyber Monday Online Shopping Tips:

  • Plan out what you want to purchase before sales begin. Adding them to your cart prior allows you to simply check out, without having to waste time searching for your items and risking them selling out.

  • Search multiple websites for the items you want. Just because a deal looks good, does not mean you can’t find better. You can use your Google search engine to do this by simply googling the name and brand of the item you want. You can also use shopping search engines such as Shoptagr (doing so is free!) and save the item you want from stores prior to sales. Such search engines will notify you when prices are lowered and where to find the lowest price.

  • Subscribe your email to an online store’s email subscription. Many online stores provide you with a coupon code that can save you an additional 10 to 20 percent off of your order.

  • Look out for coupon codes that offer free shipping!

Most importantly, do not buy something for the sake of a good deal. If you don’t feel you want or need that item, it is often not worth buying, no matter how low of a price it’s listed for. Remember to prioritize enjoying your Thanksgiving and allow fifty percent off the rain boots you’ve been eyeing to be one of the many things you are thankful for!
