To Boston’s Guardian Angels, We Love You

Yesterday, in the heart of our beloved city, a horrible catastrophe struck our community.  All Bostonians are with great sadness mourning the loss of two very courageous men.  The fire in the Back Bay yesterday that took the lives of Firefighter Michael R. Kennedy and Lieutenant Edward J. Walsh from Engine 33 Firehouse on Boylston Street was a complete and utter tragedy.

Words cannot even express how our hearts reach out to everyone affected.

Firemen risk their lives saving others every second of every day they are on the job.  They never know how dangerous each call and situation will be.  Suffolk University’s local neighbors are the members of the Beacon Hill Firehouse on Cambridge Street. The firefighters there are such a great bunch, my friends and I feel so safe knowing they are always right around the corner.  The city streets can feel precarious at times as most city streets can; but a friendly wave, smile and watchful eye from our “guardian angels” always make us feel protected.

Boston firefighters…you are all in our hearts and on our minds. We love and appreciate you endlessly. Our deepest compassion is extended to all family and loved ones of the fallen men. Together, we will rise and stay strong as a community.

Boston firefighters, and firefighters all around, we love you and thank you for all that you do every single second of every single day.

Boston Strong <3

My name is Alexa Mellardo and I am currently a sophomore and Broadcast Journalism major at Suffolk University, located in the heart of one of the most charming cities in the world: Boston. A passionate journalist, I am fortunate to be doing what I love to do….writing! When I’m not composing articles for two awesome online publications (hercampus.com and also collegefashionista.com) and attending classes, I intern at a trendy magazine in the city. In between, I love to shop and spend time with my friends and my boyfriend. I have two addictions: shopping and cupcakes. In light of that, what better place to be than just blocks away from Newbury Street, Charles Street and Quincy Market? My quaint, vintage brownstone apartment in Beacon Hill is where my two best friends and I keep it strictly classy and fashionable. We turned our apartment into a comfy fashionable haven, and we enjoy relaxing and entertaining our friends. Living in such an awesome city provides a wealth of opportunity, fun, and culture to embrace. My dream is to one day be a respected, well-known broadcast journalist.
