The mornings have begun to cool down, leaves are starting to change colour, and Uggs are reappearing on campus. Fall is here, and lets be real, you have to order a pumpkin spice latte at least once before the season is over.
However, if your wallet is empty and your schedule is too crazy for a Starbucks run, why not make your own? These recipes are perfect for any student to make in their dorm room. All you need is access to a microwave and a can opener.
For the pumpkin spice latte, use skim milk for a healthy spin, or indulge and top it with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Make sure you pick up a can of pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling. Buying a can is totally worth it – it will last you all month!
If you’re looking to unwind, a peppermint tea ;atte is great for a pick-me-up without the caffeine (and the crash that comes after). Peppermint tea is caffeine-free and naturally keeps you focused and relaxed.
So, grab your favourite mug and get cooking!
Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 tablespoons pumpkin puree
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice
- A spoonful (about 1 1/2 teaspoons) honey (or brown sugar)
- 1/3 cup milk
- 3/4 cup coffee
Lets Cook!
- In a large mug, mix pumpkin puree, cinnamon, and honey. Microwave for 30 seconds. (This cooks off the raw pumpkin flavour and makes the honey easier to combine.)

- Add your coffee and mix.
- Microwave for 30 seconds to heat everything up. Taste and adjust sweetness to your liking.
