5 Delicious Recipes with Conversation Hearts

What says “Valentine’s Day” better than conversation hearts?  Believe it or not, they’re not just for absent-mindedly popping in your mouth.  Here are five fabulous recipes using our favourite sugary treats!

Conversation Heart Brownies

Ingredients:

  • 1 pan of your favourite brownie recipe
  • 1 cup conversation hearts

Directions:

Prepare brownies according to recipe.  Pour into a parchment-lined pan and smooth batter on top.  Sprinkle the top with conversation hearts, then bake according to brownie recipe.

Conversation Heart Candy Bark

Ingredients:

  • White chocolate chips or any colour candy melts
  • Conversation hearts

Directions:

Crush the conversation hearts in a Ziploc bag with a hammer or mallet.  Sprinkle a layer of the crushed candy on the bottom of a silicone ice cube tray.

Add about 1/2 of the chocolate chips or candy melts to a disposable decorating bag and microwave at 50 per cent power for one and a half minutes.  Keep microwaving at 20-30 second intervals until the chips are melted.  Snip the top of the decorating bag and and pipe the melted chocolate on top of the crushed candies until the tray is filled.  Let sit until molds are set.

Candy Heart Pretzel Bites

Ingredients:

  • Square pretzels
  • Hershey’s Kisses chocolates
  • Conversation hearts

Directions:

Line up your square pretzels on a paper plate and place one Hershey’s Kiss on top of each.  Cut off the swirl on top each of the chocolates and microwave for about one minute.  Once the chocolates are softened, press one candy heart on each.

Conversation Heart Whipped Cream

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup crushed conversation hearts

Directions:

Add 1/2 cup whipping cream to a mixing bowl, and beat with an electric mixer starting at low speed and gradually increasing to high.  Once cream has thickened, add additional 1 cup whipping cream and repeat process.

Crush conversation hearts in a Ziploc bag with a hammer or mallet.  Add 1/2 cup crushed candy to the whipped cream, stirring until combined.  Top with more candies for decoration, if desired.

White Chocolate Valentine’s Popcorn

Ingredients:

  • 12 oz. white chocolate
  • 8 cups popped popcorn
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • Sprinkles
  • Conversation hearts

Directions:

Heat chocolate in microwave or double boiler until melted.  Add popcorn to a large mixing bowl, and pour the melted chocolate over it.  Toss with a large spoon until popcorn is evenly coated. 

Spread the covered popcorn out evenly over a baking sheet covered with wax paper, parchment paper, or aluminum foil.  Sprinkle evenly with salt, sprinkles, and conversation heart candies.  Let cool for 10 minutes or until chocolate has hardened, then break into small pieces before serving.
