Fur stoles, collars and snoods have been everywhere recently and deemed a key look for autumn/winter 2013- great news for fashionistas fearful of that winter chill.

Style icon Sienna Miller took a walk on the wild side wearing a colourful fur stole teamed with a blue chunky knit cardigan at London Fashion Week in September. Fashionista Olivia Palermo looked effortlessly chic wearing Charlotte Simone’s ‘popsicle’ fur tail to Vogue’s London Fashion Week dinner; and Anna Wintour graced the Erdem front row in a checked coat- a nod to AW13’s tartan trend- teamed with fur cuffs.

This trend may be welcomed by our wardrobes in our fight against the winter chill but it is not a straightforward trend prescription. Chanel’s Creative Director, Karl Lagerfeld may claim it is ‘childish’ to even discuss the issue of wearing fur in the modern world but campaigners such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) have previously invaded fashion shows in a war against the continual use of fur in fashion.

With each design house adopting their own personal standpoint on the use of animal skin, it’s reassuring that high street stores are offering an array of faux fur stoles, so you can keep warm and look chic without having to venture into the fur debate this winter.
