Sabrina – The Life Of An Exchange Student

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Strath chapter.

Why did you choose to do your year abroad at Strathclyde?

I chose Strathclyde because I really wanted to study in the UK and to improve my english! My home University had a contract with Strathclyde also, London was way too expensive!

What do you like about living in Glasgow?

I think Glasgow is really charming, the people are very friendly and there is always something to do!

Have you found any negatives from living in Glasgow?

The rain of course, and January and February was so dark. I’m really happy that it’s finally springtime! I was really suprised about the architecture, some of the buildings are absolutely stunning, and then there is an ugly building next to it, that ruins it! Just compare the two sides of George Square!

Is there anything you will miss when you go back home?

Yes, I will miss the lovely friends that I have made, the friendly people in Glasgow and just walking down the street. It’s a really different from where I live, I am going to miss it. Also, Glasgow is fantastic for shopping!

What have you learned from your experiences in Glasgow?

I’ve learned that it’s really easy to adapt to living in a different city! You meet people really easily.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking of doing a year abroad?

Do it! It’s such a great experience, it makes you grow as a person as well. But I would recommend finding out more about the city you want to study in! I learned this while I was already in Glasgow. I wish I had been more prepared.
