NETFLIX REVIEW: Girl Boss

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Strath chapter.

Girl Boss made its debut last month on Netflix and is based on the best selling novel of the same title which accounts the life of Sophia Amoruso. The show features the life of Amoruso, who founded the multi-million dollar website Nasty Gal from the comfort of her very own bedroom. A rebellious young twenty-something who hated every job she had and was determined not to get a boring ‘real’ job as she was frequently pressured into doing so, she turned her passion into a business. She loved vintage clothes and spotted a gap in the market selling vintage clothes she bought from dead-end shops on eBay, making a healthy profit from large price mark-ups. The show follows the growth of her business as well as issues she faced in her personal life including relationships, friendships and health issues.

It states at the start of each episode that it is a ‘real loose’ account of events which happened, as each episode is only 30 minutes long with only 13 episodes included in season 1, therefore many of the details are omitted as it in fact took her over 3 years to build her empire. Nonetheless, the story is engaging, fun and inspirational. It is a great watch and we most definitely believe a season 2 must be on the way as the story is most definitely not finished!
