A Recipe for Self Love

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stony Brook chapter.

Sometimes life can get hectic and we forget to take care of ourselves, both mentally and physically. Through self-love, anyone has the ability to care for their own well-being and happiness. You can start right now by taking a break from your daily obligations and giving your body the love it deserves! Here is a beginner’s recipe for self-love success.

Step 1: Head to your nearest bookstore and invest in some rewarding self-help books. One of my favorites is Dale Carnegie’s How To Win Friends & Influence People. It is a great book if you want to to learn a few simple and life-changing concepts to be the person you want to be. It is a book that guides you on what to do when nothing else works, shows you how to be a good conversationalist, and helps you to make great first impressions.   Step 2: Yoga is all about mindfulness, being aware of your spiritual self, meditation and certain breathing techniques for the purpose of bettering your health and relaxation. I recommend watching Yoga with Adriene on YouTube and to watch and participate in her 30 Day Yoga Journey. If you do not have time for yoga everyday, try one or two days a week. Be sure to notice how you feel afterwards. Step 3: I have always wanted to do this: create an inspiration mirror! Right now I have a full length mirror hung up on the back of my dorm room’s door and a bunch of colorful sticky notes. All you need to do is surround your mirror with inspirational quotes, favorite moments, and positive compliments that you’d see each day. You could also cover your wall or desk with encouraging sticky notes!

Step 4: Always, always, always think positively! Point out the good things instead of picking on the bad things.
