A College Guide to Surviving the Holidays

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stony Brook chapter.

Dude…where did October and November go?

It feels just like yesterday #InternationalCoffeDay was trending on Twitter, welcoming the very first day of October. But as Halloween ends, November hits like a quick slap to the face. Thanksgiving and Christmas are on the horizon. So here is your college survival guide to the holidays.

Find time to workout.

Whether it’s 30 minutes jogging or a Youtube exercise video. Releasing some feel-good hormones will keep you less stressed and happier.

Don’t holiday dial your ex.

Like 12 Days of Christmas says it: “It’s like drunk dialing without the alcohol.”

Gifts don’t need to break your bank account.

Let’s face it, you’re just a college kid. That means it’s okay to not give big. One day you will, but it doesn’t have to be right now. Set a budget and try to stick with it.

And like Donna preached in Parks and Recreation:Don’t be afraid to engage.

Most likely you have come across some new knowledge during your time away from home, dare to share your opinions during family discussions. You know more than you think you do.

But most importantly, remember to breathe and think twice before you answer any questions regarding your love and college life.
