Do you feel a push of motivation as soon as the weather starts to get warmer?

I wanted to ask a few of my friends if they shared the same feelings about the renewal of spring, and to no surprise at all, they shared similar ideas.

As soon as spring turns the corner of a dull cold winter, I am fueled with unexpected motivation. Although, I probably should not say “unexpected” because every time this time of year I am waiting with anticipation to be sprung to action. It might be the weather or the promise of summer days, it might be the hopes of the end of a school semester or outdoor activities being more enjoyable again. Whatever it is, as soon as the sun starts to set after 5 PM, I genuinely feel happier. That happiness tends to translate into motivation for me, and all of the things I grew tired of doing over the winter are once again a part of my daily or weekly routine. I wanted to share with everyone a few things that becomes, once again, a part of my routine at the start of spring, as well as things my friends had mentioned. My hope is that you might feel the same way and realize it is okay to go through slumps, even if it is an annual occurrence.

  1. Self-care always becomes more important to me when the weather starts warming. Honestly, it might be because the layers are coming off and bikinis are coming on. Regardless of the reason, skincare, exercising, eating healthy, and retail therapy become a part of my weekly routine. Spring motivates me to better myself in more ways than one.
  2. Make money! In the winter even the smallest tasks feel impossible and pointless, so having to get ready and drive to work seems too difficult at times. The cold is no help in motivating me to get out of bed, but when the warm weather comes it’s easier to get out of bed and get outside. The aspect of actually making money helps too with all of the fun things to spend it on over the summer.
  3. Keeping a routine that is consistent and promotes a “healthy” lifestyle becomes important. I put healthy in quotations because what is healthy to me might not be healthy to you. For me, it is waking up early (or before 9AM), eating breakfast, doing college student requirements, exercising, and not going to bed late (that does not always happen). I think it is important to maintain a consistent routine because it helps me to feel good about myself and motivated to keep it up the next day.
  4. Hang with friends. In the middle of winter, I would rather stay in bed than even hang out with my friends. Sometimes, the warmth of my blanket and pillows seems more important to me than being with the people I love. In the spring, I am ready to make plans and make some memories.
  5. Do homework. In the spring, I am more willing to go to the library and get work done. I think after the slump of winter, I want to work harder and do better.”
  6. Be outside! I love the outdoors but being able to be outside when it isn’t trying to bring you pain is so much more fun. I love going on walks in the spring, going on picnics, and hanging out with friends.”

The slump of winter is almost over and some of us are ready to be active in our lives again. Disclaimer: even with warmer weather life does not automatically become easier, it just becomes a little better!
