This week’s Campus Cutie not only has good looks and a great personality, but he also has a heart of gold. Instead of the traditional interview-style, I feel his character is best summarized by his girlfriend Nicole, who is also sophomore here at Stonehill, and the person who nominated him.
“Joey and I have been dating for a year and a half. We lived in the same building our freshman year and started dating a month after we met. We had a great first year together, he fit right into my friend group and my family adored him from the start. We did everything together and could barely stand to spend even hours apart. But after our one-year anniversary, I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Not only did this mean I had to move home and fight for my life but put an enormous strain on our relationship. While he could have easily turned away from me, he not only stayed, but helped me fight- he shaved his head when my hair fell out and continued to shave it in the 6 months I spent without hair, he drove 40 miles every Thursday to come to my chemotherapy treatments, and spent many long nights coaching me through pain, tears and ER visits while also balancing a 5-class engineering program and a job, commuting 20 minutes each way from school to my house. He never for a moment complained or mentioned leaving me, “It’s all because I love you.” He is the reason why I am now in remission, he is the love of my life and he deserves any and all kinds of credit I can give him for what he’s done for me and my family.”
