Campus Correspondent Kelly Lewis recently asked Her Campus at Stonehill members to answer the prompt:

When I was younger I thought I wanted to be… but now I want to…

Kelly is graduating in one month and she can’t stop thinking about jobs. With so many career options to choose from, she thought it would be interesting to see what her peers want to do. It turns out that some of HC Stonehills’ members will actually be living out their childhood dream upon graduation! While others are studying to be something they never had even thought about as a child. From education to medicine, to design, our HC members do it all. We are so lucky to have such a diverse group of young females!

Abby A: When I was younger, I wanted to be a pharmacist because my mom was one. In elementary school, I definitely did not know what that was. I just knew that when I would visit her, I would get empty medicine bottles that I would bring home to play in the bath with. Now I want to pursue social media and marketing out of school and eventually start my own brand.

Amanda Craig: When I was younger I thought I wanted to be a veterinarian because I loved playing with our family cat, but now I’m not sure exactly what I want to do yet.

Avery Holzworh: When I was younger I wanted to be a waitress because I loved going to work with my aunt at her restaurant. Now, I want to work in international relations and politics to connect with people from different backgrounds and make the world a more just place.

Corinne Lewis: When I was younger I thought I wanted to be a dentist because my friends told me they made a lot of money. Now I want to be a UX designer to help people through design.

Emerson Dlugosinski: When I was younger I wanted to be a fashion designer because I loved sketching outfits and expressing my creativity through clothing. Now I want to be an art director because I want to combine my love for marketing and design into one role while facing creative challenges every day.

Erin Sousa: When I was younger, I wanted to be a teacher. My dad bought me a whiteboard easel, so I would stand in front of it and line up my American Girl dolls to play pretend school. Now, I am going to be a teacher, so I guess I am living out my childhood dreams! Only now, instead of American Girl dolls, I have a room of sixteen-year-olds in front of me as I write on the whiteboard.

Emma Cianciulli: When I was younger I thought I wanted to be a veterinarian because I have always loved animals. As I got older though I realized I would not be able to save all of them, and that would break my heart too much. I also hate the sight of blood, which is a bit problematic as a vet. Now I want to be a Head Librarian at a prestigious or well-known library because being surrounded by books all day would be like heaven for me!

Emma Cahill: When I was younger, I wanted to be a pop star because I was self-centered and wanted to be famous. Now, I am shy and realized that I cannot sing or play any instruments. I want to work in the Media Industry industry in TV, print, or film creating cool content for people to consume.

Emma M: When I was younger I wanted to be an author because I loved listening to and telling stories, especially mysteries. I used to write all kinds of things, from cookbooks to poetry collections to restaurant reviews. Now I want to be a librarian and still want to be an author!

Kelly Lewis: When I was in elementary school I wanted to be an astronaut when I grew up because I thought it would be so cool to explore outer space! I quickly realized that wasn’t going to happen, as science and math were not my strong subjects. In high school, I found a passion for creative writing, and one day I hope to write for an online blog or magazine, ideally Her Campus! Ever since I became a Campus Correspondent two years ago, Her Campus has been my dream company to work for!

Kenzie Mannone: When I was younger I wanted to be a trash collector because I waved to them every day but now I want to be a lawyer.

Marisa Silk: When I was younger I wanted to be Hannah Montana because I thought I could pull off the double life. I thought she was so cool, and that I looked exactly like her. Then, I realized I have no singing or dancing ability, so now I want to be a high school English teacher to put my actual talents to use.

Maya Graham: When I was younger I wanted to be a dancer because that is what I thought all little girls wanted to be, but I quickly realized I was not graceful enough and too clumsy to be on a stage. Now, I want to be an elementary school counselor, which has changed too many times to count since being a freshman at Stonehill. I would not be surprised if I change my mind again!

Meg Swezey: When I was younger I wanted to be a teacher, and I would play school every single day with my American Girl Dolls. Who would have thought all these years later I would be majoring in special education!

Rachel Galatis: When I was younger I wanted to be a meteorologist because I wanted to be on TV and I liked the weather. Now, I want to be in the public relations field where I can talk to people and engage in activities and events.

Remember that you can do anything! Do not let anyone hold you back from achieving your dreams. Certain jobs may be more male or female-dominated but that should not stop you from entering a certain field.

As Kelly’s dad always told her: “choose a job you love and you will never work a day in your life.”
