Decorating Your Dorm for the Holidays

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stonehill chapter.

It truly is the most wonderful time of the year! School is beginning to wind down, peppermint coffee is back and, most importantly the holiday season is upon us. Christmas music is flooding the radio stations and holiday specials are now on prime time television. If you were anything like me last night, I casually quoted How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carey version, of course) for a mere three hours. However, no matter how much one may try to spread Christmas cheer, it simply is not the same as celebrating at home. Instead of studying in a typical dorm room, there are a variety of ways to decorate your room without breaking the bank but still celebrating in style!

An easy way would be to ask your family or friends for decorations that they are no longer using! That way you get great decorations for free. Make sure you ask first! Don’t ruin the holidays for your family at home by stealing the 16-year-old Frosty the Snowman statue…nobody likes a Grinch (unless the Grinch is Jim Carey).

Another alternative would obviously be to go out and buy the decorations yourself! I know, crazy right? You can easily go out to stores like the Dollar Tree, Target, and WalMart, that have great decorations for reasonable prices. Pooling your money together with your roommate and other housemates will allow you to buy more decorations and spend less of your own money! Also, stores will have decorations up to 70% off after the holidays, so stock up for next year!

If all else fails you can just cut out a million snowflakes and hang them everywhere.

Happy Decorating!
