Being that March is Women’s History Month and we are all about girl power, including entrepreneurship –  it was only fitting that we highlight 21 year old Junior, Aliyah Goni!

This Toms River native is hardworking, inviting and strong. As a business major with a concentration in management and a minor in holistic health, striving for success comes naturally to Aliyah. When she was 18 years old, still just a Senior in high school, Aliyah decided to start her own business with cosmetics company, Mary Kay. “With college around the corner, I knew Mary Kay would be the perfect flexible side job to make some extra money and be able to share with all the new friends I was meeting.

Here’s how it works – we play with award-winning skincare and makeup! Consultants share the products with customers and we make a percentage of everything we sell! There are opportunities to grow into leadership positions and even earn the use of FREE company cars,” Aliyah mentions.

Aliyah says that the most rewarding part of being an Independent Beauty Consultant for Mary Kay is “Growing into a leadership position and being able to change lives. Whether it be teaching proper skincare techniques or mentoring young girls on how to successfully run their own businesses!” Her favorite quote that inspires her for success comes from Mary Kay Ash: “Aerodynamically, the bumblebee shouldn’t be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn’t know it, so it goes on flying anyway.”

When she’s not working with Mary Kay or attending to her studies, Aliyah spends her free time working out and trying out recipes she finds on Pinterest. After graduation, Aliyah envisions herself driving around in her Pink Cadillac.

On campus, Aliyah is also involved in the Stockton Fashion Club where she is Treasurer. When asked about trends in the fashion world, Aliyah says she can’t get enough of pastels and wishes Vans would disappear because “they’re so basic and everyone has them!” Aliyah says her style icon is Lilly Pulitzer and adds that “anyone who knows Lilly knows why I love her.” Of course, the late fashion designer was a strong, female entrepreneur as well so this comes as no surprise! Aliyah offers the following advice to young women entering the world of business: “Never take advice from someone you would never trade places with and always surround yourself with positive, strong role models!”
