It’s amazing how much someone can dive right back into the semester with almost two months off of no school and no responsibilities. The new year comes with a new semester and a new start to work hard for the semester. With new classes and exams coming our way, here are a few tips you can do to make sure you are staying on top of your schoolwork.

1. Grab an agenda.

They are God’s gift to all students. They help plan out your week of classes, homework and events. If you are anything like me, I have to map out when I am going to do homework between my five classes and three clubs I am in.

2. Put yourself first.

Sometimes you ought to put yourself first. If you would rather sleep on a Friday night than go out. I would choose sleep, especially if you have been pulling all lighters every night of the week.

3. Exercise.

Your body will thank you for this. Exercising is essential to life. It’ll help you stay healthy and fit, release stress and when you exercise, your body releases endorphins, the body’s natural happy pills.

4. Have quiet time to yourself.

When I was eighteen and a senior in high school, my English teacher taught me to spend time alone in the library. The best way to get work done is to find a place where no one will distract you.

5. Say goodbye to social media.

I’m sorry to say but our biggest distractions are our social media accounts. The best advice I can give you to turn off your phone and study for a good amount of time and then for a five-minute break to go on your social media.

6. Attend Office Hours.

They seemed scary at first, the one-on-one with a professor is something that I had no intentions of ever wanting to experience, but if you are struggling on a paper or a math problem, your professor will sit with you and talk you through your areas of difficulties.

7. Reward yourself.

This is pretty much the same as putting yourself first, but you work so hard so in the end you should indulge in a pint of Ben and Jerry’s, or an entire series in one day on Netflix. School is rough and since you working hard on surviving this semester you truly deserve to reward yourself.

College is fun, but with fun comes responsibility. School should always come first and with the new semester, we should all believe in the motto: work hard, play hard. With these seven tips I can definitely promise you that you will succeed this semester.
