This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stetson chapter.

Jeffrey Hahn is a 21-year-old student at Stetson University from Fort Myers, FL. He is majoring in Social Science and hopes on becoming a college administrator on day. On his free time, Jeffrey likes to participate in sports, watch a good Netflix series, and whip up a nice meal in the kitchen.

HC: What opportunities lead you to being Student Government Association President?

JH: Mostly being in the right place at the right time. I’m a big believer that everything happens for a reason and that seems to be what put me in the positions that I’m in today. When I was selected as an orientation leader it lead to more connections and relationships that I ever could have expected to happen. I was able to land an internship with SGA and sparked the interest I now have for SGA. After that internship and learning more about the organization I started considering running. One random conversation later gave me the confidence about running and ultimately lead to me becoming SGA president.

HC: As SGA President, what are some of your responsibilities?

JH: My responsibilities are mainly working with the school and examining the best way for SGA to move forward with its initiatives. Looking at what bills and resolutions the senate will be proposing and how I can help them the most. Connecting them with the best resources on campus in order to help the bills and resolutions come to fruition.

HC: What lessons have you learned from your position?

JH: Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Learning about policies and procedures and how a university functions really helped me utilize my position to the best of my ability.

HC: What common misconceptions do you believe student may have about Student Government Association on this campus?

JH: I think a lot of students believe that SGA doesn’t do much. I think we try to avoid being braggadocios and that results in the misconception that we don’t do much. Being in SGA gives you a voice that other students don’t have and you can make really interesting and impactful initiatives to better the atmosphere for all students.

HC: How can the students of Stetson help make the job of SGA easier?

JH: Be involved. Being involved opens eyes to how a university works and helps keep students knowledgeable on policies and procedures.

HC: For anyone looking to be in your position in the future or getting involved with SGA, what advice do you have for them?

JH: Do it. Do it. Do it. This position has been a crazy mixture of experiences. Fun, stressful, and just the most interesting job on campus. The relationships and bonds I have been fortunate enough to build are the best outcomes of this job.

HC: Any last words?

JH: My favorite quote: “It’s not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are.” – Roy Disney
