ACCEPTED! What to Expect

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stetson chapter.

So you’ve been accepted to Stetson University… Congrats! Here you’ll find all the behind the scenes information you’ve been secretly wondering about the nightlife and campus atmosphere!

Dress Codes:

Struggling to figure out what to wear? HC has got you covered.  Every night ranges from dressy too casual, but always cute :)

-Thursday and Saturday: Student Nights! The students here tend to dress up a little more on these nights becasue everyone is out and about! A cute dress and a pair of heels is an appropriate choice on a night like this. Check out the Alpha Xi ladies below looking fabulous for a typical Thursday night in Downtown Deland!

-Friday and Wednesday:  Do your thing! What ever you feel like! Want to dress up? Go for it. Want to dress down? Do it! Jeans and a cute top are always acceptable for a casual night.  As long as you feel comfortable, pretty and make it work, you are bound to have a great night! The ladies of Pi Beta Phi are rockin’ their jeans and cute tops!

Where to hang out:

-Fraternities:  Stetson has 6 and all are fun places to hang out.  It all depends on your preference on where to go.  Who you’re friends with aremost likely where you’ll frequent more.  However all of them are very open and welcoming, making it fun to “frat hop”. The ladies of Tri Delta are having some fun with their freinds at Sig Ep!

-Dorm Rooms: As a freshemn, you’ll be spending a lot of time in your new home! Your roomate and hallmates will most likely become your hang out buddies within days! Be sure to wonder the hallways, introduce yourself and invite people over! This is crucial in the first few days of the year… Freshemn dorms are dry (no alcohol), so be careful of what you bring in and out of the buildings.

Where to go out:

You have probably visited down town Deland during the day, however at night it’s a bit different.

-The Brickhouse: During the day, it’s a great place to take your parents for some food and drinks but during the night it turns into a bar/nightclub! The most popluar bar at Stetson, The Brickhouse is sure to be packed with students on Thursday and Saturday nights. Check out these Tri Delta ladies as they enjoy a night on the town at the famous Brickhouse.

-Grotto: This wine and beer bar has turned into quite the hotspot. With Wednesday night karaoke, you’ll find students signing and dancing while drinking delcious beverages that won’t break your budget! Sunday=Funday with half off all drinks!

-The Bars: When you ask a student where they are going it, they will most likely say “the bars”. This translates into going to Downtown Deland Rich Ave, where The Brickhouse and The Grotto are located. When you hear this term “the bars”, head to Rich Ave for some fun!

-The Blind Pig: Want to get away from the typical college atmosphere? If you want to escape the crowds of college kids for a night head over to the pig located on New York right next to an amazing pizza parlor called Tony’s! Upperclassmen tend to go there more, but anyone is welcome.  They always have events happening like open mic and karaoke night… head to Tony’s for a “pizza break” if your hungry!

-Bowling Alley:  The Bolwing Alley down international is a fun place to go on a Wednesday night! With student discounts and drink specials, you’ll see alot of students go to this hot spot as well as Smackers bar located right inside. Check out Alpha Chi playing a game with their fellow sisters!

On Campus:

-Every Friday, Hatter Productions has a movie showing.  Always check their calender for events each weekend. There are tons of things to do and have a good time even if you aren’t into going out as much.

-Plan a movie night or get dinner with friends and have a girl’s night… Use your common area in your dorm!

-Stetson Green! This is THE place to be on a beautiful day inbetween classes. You’ll see students laying out in the sun, playing frisbee, laying in hammocks and enjoying the scenery of our campus. The Stetson Green is arguably considered the heart of our school.

-Head over to the Coffee Shop! They are open super late for late night studying and also serves Satrbucks coffee! It’s a great place to catch up with freinds, have a casual meeting, or do homework in between classes.
