Ignore the stereotypes and myths because not alll may be true or must it apply to you. Before joining a sorority, I thought it was like the movie, House Bunny and thought all the girls were like the ones in Neighbors 2 and 90210. I kept an open mind and took a shot with Lambda Sigma Tau. Of course there are stereotypes that we live up to, but not are all true about our chapter. Lambda Sigma Tau is a fun way to gain leadership experience, meet new people on campus and get involved at St. Kate’s. If you are interested in joining Lambda Sigma Tau, don’t hold back, and give it a shot.

MYTH: We don’t want to talk to you because you aren’t in greek life.

False. Being in a sorority does not mean we shut others out. “I don’t like when people say sorority girls stick with only sorority girls…I feel like we really are spread out and very visible individually. I have a lot of friends outside the sorority and don’t want the school thinking LST is one giant clique that is too good for everyone else because that is so not true.”-K.B

MYTH: Starbucks/Caribou obsession is real.

True. No explanation needed.

MYTH: You just pay to have friends.

False. Our friendships are priceless. Our dues are not nearly as much as most sororities. We all come from a diverse socioeconomic background and have payment installments to help out! We do not want the financial aspect hindering from anyone joining the group.

MYTH: We are all selfish people and don’t care about others.

False. We all want the best for one another and we love giving our time to help others! Each semester we have a duty to participate in a minimum of two service projects to give back to the community.

MYTH:The Sorority Squat

True. These pictures show case our fellow LST sisters: Hannah K. Sabrina A. Khadro H. Kara N. Teagan T. Even without knowing it, we all do this. It just so happens to be a common thing for sorority girls to do. Then again, how else are 40+ girls supposed to be seen in one picture?

MYTH: Every sorority has to have a house.

False. LST does not have a house on campus. Way back when St. Thomas and St. Kate’s did not allow greek housing, therefore that rule is still practiced now. “I like that we don’t have a house, it keeps dues down, there is no living requirement or house maintenance. It also keeps relations between sisters better. There is less drama. “-H. J

MYTH: All sororities do is party.

False. Lambda Sigma Tau is a dry sorority and we take this very seriously. We have strict rules and consequences in our constitution addressing this in addition to hazing. If you are looking to join a sorority for the party scene, LST is not for you. When asked in a poll, 100% of sisters answered that it does not make a difference here at St. Kate’s. “It’s non existent, We are dedicated to service and sisterhood.”-R.L

MYTH: We take tons of pictures and wear our letters all the time.

True. Every year we have a scapbook made to document all the accomplishments and fun events we shared. It helps to have tons of picures! For me, wearing my letters means that I accomplished 6 weeks of initiation into a sisterhood that will last me a lifetime. It represents sisterhood, hard work and pride. I am not better than anyone else just because of my letters. Instead, I have become a better person because of my letters. “We all own too much clothing with our letters but it is because we are proud to wear them and believe it is who we are.” – Molly
