Ever have the feeling that something is missing? Kind of like this empty hole inside your chest waiting to be filled but not knowing by what? If you’ve ever felt this way, you’re not alone. We’ve all been there. Let’s take a look at some tips on how to break that feeling of emptiness and on you’re way to becoming a happier, healthier you!

1. Acknowledge and accept the fact that you’re having these feelings.

It sounds clichĂ©, but there’s a reason why they say that admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery. There’s something very freeing in just accepting your feelings and accepting that what you’re feeling is okay. You’re only human and you’re very much allowed to not be okay.

2. Take some much needed “me-time.”

More than likely, your feelings of emptiness started because of a lack of care for yourself. If you’re like me, then you’re a person who likes to help others but often at the expense of yourself. As a result, it’s easy to kind of start to forget your needs and start placing others higher than yourself leaving one to feel lonely and upset. By spending some time with yourself and doing the things you love; you’ll start to shed some light on the things you forgot you needed!

3. Discover your triggers and get some real insight on the issue.

Ask yourself questions, questions, questions, and even more questions! Get down to the deep stuff. Have you been feeling like you hate your job, or your major, or feeling like you need a new group of friends, ask yourself why? Why do I feel this way and what can I do to fix it? Change can only occur if you take the first step. Remember that you can either choose to be bitter or get better.

4. Start figuring out what would make you feel satisfied with your life.

What are your goals, dreams, and aspirations? What would it take to get you there? Dream big and set aside any internal or external expectations that may be. It’s all unnecessary pressure that keeps you stuck inside the box. Try to be as real and honest with yourself as possible!

5. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

After all this introspective talking with yourself is over it’s safe to say you’ve definitely been in the wash cycle. Now’s the time to rinse away all of those bad thought patterns and actions that leave you feeling less than and start repeating this new found confidence you’ve found since fleeing away from that hole in your chest.

I see great things in you yet. Good luck on your journey.
