Wait, what do you mean I have to go back?
Fall break is over and the hectic midterm season is over. WHAT? With tests, papers, friendship standards, and campus life falling in our laps with the season, how does one go back to the intensity of college living?
Being on our beautiful campus and experiencing the college life at first hand as a freshman, coming home for the first time was bittersweet. Of course, right when we finally feel settled in and make friends, fall break happens. Don’t get me wrong, who doesn’t love fall break?! But, why is it so hard to want to go back?
Being from out of state in Maryland, the reality of being in college and far from home has really sunk in in this short amount of time during fall break. I can speak for almost every freshman college student that this is a hard transition, whether you grew up 20 minutes away or 4 hours away. The easy living and constant comfort of our own beds and the relief after eating our first home cooked meal in months, who wouldn’t be convinced to stay?
Realizing that my “home” isn’t really my primary home is also a weird thing to wrap my mind around. We often find ourselves saying, “Saint Vincent is our home”, which I guess now it really. Coming back home and seeing that nothing has really changed and that you transition right back into your “old life”, makes it that much harder. It also makes you realize that your life is finally starting to begin after we always say “I can’t wait for college and real life”. But now that it is here, there is no going back and we learn now to always live in the moment.
For only being on campus for a short amount of time, I can already tell that college has its ups and downs. Being in college is one of the greatest privileges and (hopefully) will be the time of our lives. But it is up to us to find those ups and make the most of our experience. So, go out and live it up . . . you got this!
