1. Study so you can move out of your parents’ house

Don’t forget about your big dreams to become what you said you were going to be in your Kindergarten class. It’s important to be realistic, but don’t be afraid to dream.

2. Skip a prior engagement to do something that you think is more important

At sometime in every semester you’re going to get the option to do something when you have already made plans. Sometimes, that plan is going to be class, a guest lecture, or even lunch with a friend. If you get the chance to do something that sounds like an experience you won’t get again, even if it’s just sleeping for an extra two hours, take that risk and skip. College is the first time where you have freedom, so use your freedom, but know your limits.

3. Find adventure

Take the road less traveled, take a walk on the wild side, take the long walk back to your dorm, and take a road trip. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. After all, “Life begins where your comfort zone ends.”

4. Go to parties (yes, the kind where drinking is the major attraction)

To most college students this really isn’t an issue of questioning to go or not. However, to some it is. That perfect image of yourself you think you may be ruining if you go out to a party, it really isn’t that important. Have some fun while you can! After all, you’re probably going to be married in about 6 years and start having kids, I don’t think you doing a keg stand then is going to be the smart choice.

5. Culture yourself

Even if that just means trying the “special” at the cafe…

6. Never forget where home is

Call home often. If you think about your mom or dad, call them. I promise you won’t annoy them. Go home on breaks and enjoy the time you have with them! Your parents made you, you!

7. Attend a sporting event for your college

Cheer on your school! It’s a great way to see how much the community you’re in rocks!

8. Find your true interests

Don’t sign up for a class just because your best friend is taking it. When you’re scheduling, look for a class that speaks to your interests! If you think joining the Outdoors club sounds like something you’d like, do it!

9. Don’t be afraid of a challenge

Give it a try, I promise that it’ll be worth it! A lot of the time you’ll regret not doing something, but if you give it a try you can never be disappointed with missing an opportunity.

10. Be yourself

The best version of you is yourself. If you feel like you have to be someone your not, then you’re doing it wrong. If someone can’t love you for you, they’re the problem, not you!

St Vincent '18

Hello there! I am the Campus Correspondent of the Her Campus chapter at Saint Vincent College. As a senior psychology major, I've made the most of my time in undergrad and am excited for all the doors I have opening ahead of me. I can definitely thank Her Campus for giving me invaluable skills. As a future psychologist, I hope that my articles (and the chapter's) are able to make you feel empowered, motivate you to start a conversation, and be kind. As a hero of mine has said, "If you do not take control over your time and your life, other people will gobble it up. If you don't prioritize yourself, you constantly start falling lower and lower on your list."- Michelle Obama. Be the change you want to see in the world, and smile. Always smile!
