Pleated skirts keep you classy and trendy. These skirts are easy to throw on with any item in your wardrobe and are great for college girls on the go! You can wear them to create a business-casual look with a blouse or a simple t-shirt to create a more creative on-campus look.

A mini chiffon pleated skirt is my cup of tea (even better if it’s salmon color!). I like to wear it high-waisted and pair it with a loose tank top and a pair of oxfords to create a normal school day look. Really though, you can put these skirts to many uses.

They are proven to work well for any date night: just throw on a dark silky or lace top and wear a pair of heels (Mary-Janes are also a good option!). Just one thing to remember when choosing what top to wear with your pleated skirt: avoid wearing a tight top! Keep the whole feeling casual and sassy. Also, don’t break out the tights if it is NOT a business occasion: short socks are pleated skirt friendly, especially when you pair them with Oxfords or Mary-Janes.

Pleated skirts are classic, but don’t be afraid to wear them colorfully since color blocking is another trend this year. (As I mentioned in one of my last posts: www.hercampus.com/school/stolaf/sto-style-bright-color-rocks ). The cute shape will soften the sharpness that color blocking may bring to an outfit.

Maxi skirts/dresses are also a trend this year.  A pleated maxi skirt is a wonderful choice for any occasion! Not only are they easy to throw on in the summer, but they are flattering and easy to wear in the fall as well.

Now I’m sure you’re wondering, where can I find the perfect pleated skirt? I would definitely recommend American Apparel. They have both short and long pleated skirts in many different color and materials and luckily for us Oles, they have a store in the nearby Mall of America! They also have another store in uptown Minneapolis and of course, you can always check out their website!

Happy shopping!
