StO-Style: Halloween Costumes Fit for a Fashionista

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Olaf chapter.

Hi fashionistas!

With Halloween less than two weeks away, it is time to start thinking about costumes! Allow the passionate, fashionista side of you to shine this Halloween with a fashion-inspired costume.

Digging into the past for inspiration, I have come up with a few costume ideas inspired by fashion icons and eras. So, here are some classy, chic, and mod costume suggestions to get you thinking about how to incorporate your love for fashion into your halloween costume.

Enjoy!

Daisy Buchanan/20s Girl

For a 20s inspired look, being glam is essential. Try a dress covered in sequins. If you don’t have a sequin dress laying around, grab a little black dress from your closet. Vamp up your look with a sequin headband with feathers. Then, pile on the bling! This sparkle can come in the form of rings, necklaces, earrings, or bracelets. Swipe on some light makeup, lipstick, a smoky eye, and you’ve got a cohesive look straight from the 20s.

Marilyn Monroe

Classic and chic, the Marilyn Monroe look is sure to be a stand-out costume. The white halter dress is integral to the look, but if you can’t find an exact replica, no need to worry. Any white dress will do! Be sure to own the look with heels (at least for part of the night!), curled hair, bright lipstick, and a flirtatious smile.

Audrey Hepburn

The Audrey Hepburn look is the epitome of a fashion icon-inspired costume. Pull out an LBD from your closet, put your hair up in a high bun, and search out some vintage earrings and pearls. Elbow length black gloves and a bling-filled hair clip will complete the look. Wing your eyeliner, put on some light lipstick, and you are the new Audrey!

Twiggy/60s Girl

The 60s look is mod. It incorporates color and simple silhouettes. Twiggy, the fashion icon of the period, is a great muse to inspire the look. Search for a colorful dress with a basic shape, add opaque tights, bold earrings, small heels, and your 60s inspired costume is almost complete! Don’t forget makeup – be brave and try the iconic Twiggy mascara look, add a light lipstick or gloss, and blush. Then you’ve got a classic 60s costume.

Searching to find the perfect spot to purchase some of the items to complete these fashion-inspired costumes? Locally, you should check out A Bag Lady. It is located right in downtown Northfield in the Archer House. They have a wide variety and huge selection of items, including vintage-looking earrings, necklaces, and headbands. Ragstock is also a good place to look for a variety of costume items. Enjoy searching out the items for your fashion-inspired halloween costume!

Looking into the past is a great way to get inspiration for a costume fit for a fashionista! I hope these ideas have inspired you!

(Even on Halloween), stay fashionable, Oles!
