StO-Style: The Colors of Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Olaf chapter.

Hello dear Her Campus readers!

I am so excited to be writing StO-Style again this year. This semester I will be blogging about fashion from across the ocean – I am currently on Term in the Middle East and am loving it so far! I hope to write about both current trends stateside and my impression of fashion here in the Middle East. Any suggestions for articles or topics that you’d like to see covered? Leave me a comment below!

While I am having the time of my life abroad, I am a bit sad to be missing fall back at St. Olaf. Our campus is at its best in the fall – not only are the trees aglow with fiery shades of orange, yellow and red, but students are fresh-faced and ready to tackle the semester ahead with killer wardrobes to match.

Fall is my favorite time of year wardrobe-wise. Cardigans, cute boots, cozy sweaters . . . what’s not to love? While I can’t partake in any of these trends (I brought a total of one cardigan with me, and my usual footwear is Birkenstocks), I decided to highlight the trendy colors for fall for those of you who can participate! This season’s hot colors are mustard, oxblood and emerald – rich and bold colors that mirror the changing leaves. Read on for more inspiration!

Mustard

Jeans: £10 – fashionunion.com, Sweater: £22 – bankfashion.co.uk, Peplum: $37 – dorothyperkins.com Coat: $147 – asos.com, Scarf: $18 – modcloth.com, Loafers: $30 – dsw.com, Sunglasses: $69 – theoutnet.com, Dress: $30 – urbanoutfitters.com Wedges:$38 – modcloth.com

When it comes to condiments, I’m more of a ketchup girl, but the cute mustard-hued offerings currently out there have me reconsidering. Mustard is a classier and more fashionable way to wear yellow. Wear mustard with navy or with deep emerald shades for a perfect pairing!

Oxblood

Satchel: $207 – asos.com Boots: $89 – urbanoutfitters.co, Scarf: $10 – topshop.com, Jeans: $49 – dorothyperkins.co, Tank: $60 – net-a-porter.com Skirt: $76 – topshop.com, Shirt: $29 – dorothyperkins.co, Bodysuit: $36 – topshop.com

Out of the three, oxblood is definitely my favorite shade for fall. I love this rich shade of red and am lusting after those boots – studs and oxblood? Sign me up! Oxblood pieces would go great with grey, emerald or your favorite pair of blue jeans. Strapped for cash? Grab the oxblood scarf for a cheap wardrobe update (only $10!).

Emerald

Nail polish: $14 – nordstrom.com, Jeans: $40 – urbanoutfitters.co, Maxi Skirt: £320 – oxygenboutique.com, Blouse: $40 – urbanoutfitters.com, Tights: $20 – topshop.com, Shirt: $98 – madewell.com, Beanie: $120 – stylebop.com, Loafers: $56 – topshop.com, Scarf: $156 – matchesfashion.com

This moody shade is extremely versatile. Not only does it go with the other two colors above, but it also would look chic paired with any jewel tone. Paint some emerald onto your nails, swish around campus in a pleated maxi or do both! (Why not?)

So inject your fall wardrobe with some mustard, oxblood and emerald, and stay fashionable St. Olaf!
