Sometimes living on a college campus can feel a bit like being stuck in a bubble. While Northfield can get a little dull, we are fortunate to be located within driving distance of one of the greatest metropolitan areas in the United States- the Twin Cities! Assemble a group of friends and get tickets to one (or more!) of these great upcoming concerts in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area.

Tuesday, Nov. 19- John Legend

7:30 p.m., State Theatre, Minneapolis

$44.50-89

If you’re a fan of soul music with a bit of a kick, go see this R&B icon showcase his smooth, swoon-worthy chops next week at the State Theatre. His most recent album, Love in the Future, dropped this fall so there will be plenty of new tunes to hear.

Saturday, Nov. 23- John Mayer

7 p.m., Target Center, Minneapolis

$55-75

John Mayer is known for his easygoing, acoustic rock, but his last few albums have marked a shift toward a new country vibe. Check out this concert to listen to his latest hits, and for a chance to hear your old favorites again.

Saturday, Nov. 30- Jay-Z

8 p.m., Xcel Energy Center, Saint Paul

$30.50-123

Looking for a high energy show from one of the greatest rappers in the game? Roll on down to the Xcel Energy Center and fist-pump your way through Jay-Z’s impressive set-list, including old hits like “Empire State of Mind” and songs from his most recent album, Magna Carta Holy Grail.

Wednesday, Dec. 4/Thursday, Dec. 5- Hunter Hayes

7:30 p.m., Orpheum Theatre, Minneapolis

$37.50-52

Country lovers and fan girls, head over to the Orpheum Theatre to catch the performance of one of music’s biggest heartthrobs. Who wouldn’t want to watch Hunter sing “Wanted” and pretend it was directed right at you?

Sunday, Dec. 8- Drake

7 p.m., Target Center, Minneapolis

$68

Drake has had a huge year, from winning a Grammy for Best Rap Album to releasing his third studio album. With supporting acts Miguel, Future, PartyNextDoor and The Weeknd, this is a show you won’t want to miss.

Monday, Dec. 9- Chance The Rapper

8:00 p.m., First Avenue, Minneapolis

$20

This hip-hop recording artist from Chicago has been gaining recognition for his self-produced mixtapes and collaboration with artists such as Hoodie Allen, Joey Bada$$ and Lil Wayne. He also performed at the Chicago-based music festival Lollapalooza last summer. In a few years when he becomes the next Kanye, you can tell your friends you saw him for only $20!

Tuesday, Jan 7- P!nk

8 p.m., Target Center, Minneapolis

If you’re really looking for a killer show, go check out P!nk at the Target Center. She is known for her incredible stage presence and acrobatics-even flying above the crowd on cables for one number. This is a show that you’ll walk out of feeling empowered and on top of the world.

Saturday, Jan 11- John Newman

8 p.m., Varsity Theater, Minneapolis

$13-15

John Newman burst onto the music scene this year with the release of his debut album, Tribute. Peaking at number 1 on the U.K. charts, this British singer-songwriter’s soul-pop tunes will have you talking about him long after the show ends.

Thursday, Jan 16- Walk Off The Earth

6 p.m., Varsity Theater, Minneapolis

$26-35

We’ve all seen the YouTube video of this Canadian group jamming to Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” on one guitar. Imagine what other antics this indie band has in store! Expect to hear a healthy mix of covers and original songs.

Sunday, Jan 26- St. Lucia

7 p.m., 7th Street Entry, Minneapolis

$15

St. Lucia’s synth-pop jams have a bit of an 80’s vibe to them, but with a fresh take that makes them feel completely new. Like some of the other artists on this list, St. Lucia is relatively new to the industry; when you leave the venue though, you’ll be wondering where his music has been all your life.
