Marhaba!

This week could have possibly been the hardest and yet the best week in all of my time in Cairo thus far. This week was filled with exams, papers, and presentations. I had three arabic tests/quizzes in the span of two days and I had a paper due. I also had to present one of the harder reading in my Protest/Dissent Movements class. Event though it is one of my favorite classes it by far has the hardest and longest reading materials of all of my classes. But even with all of that frustration, I kicked butt and got it all done and did well! Kudos for me!

On Tuesday of last week, I decided to take a trip to the Cuban Embassy and visit them so I could see what my Caribbean brothers were up too in Cairo. When I visited, they mentioned a party that they were throwing at the Ambassador’s Residence on Thursday, so I invited one of my Mexican friends here at AUC. It was the best night of my life. I had the greatest time EVER! I danced salsa, reggaeton, samba, cumbia, everything. I even taught them some Arab moves to Ruby’s hit “Leih Bedary Keda.” I also ended up meeting the Mexican Ambassadors and the Paraguayan Ambassadors at the party, while chilling with my Cubans!

Then on Friday, I went to a birthday party that my friend was throwing at a club, called Club Purple, which ironically has orange lighting. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed myself dancing with a great group of friends to all the hits – especially Hip/R&B and a little reggaeton. The best song by far, which was when I tore up the dance floor with my Peruvian friend, was Daddy Yankee’s classic “Rompe” and Pitbull’s “Hotel Room Service.” It was another memorable night, but still did not compare to the wonders of the Cuban Embassy party. One word: Epic!
