After writing last week’s post about the #BestSongsToHaveSexTo, I feel like a companion piece might be needed: #SongsForSingleGirls. (We should get that trending on Twitter! Someone make this happen.) As a single girl myself, I know that just because you are flying solo doesn’t mean you don’t get any nookie. Based on my experience, however, it isn’t usually expected ahead of time, so you may not have thought to download the sexytime playlist in advance of getting it on. What single girls do expect, though, is to spend lots of time hanging out with girlfriends, drinking wine and getting ready pre-going out. This playlist is all about empowering, fun songs that you and your friends can sing and dance to. It will be the perfect addition to any Ladies’ Night!

Slut Like You, P!nk, The Truth About Love: This song calls out the double standard for hooking-up that exists in our culture in an awesome, pop-y power ballad that is sure to become a favorite sing-a-long for you and your best girls.

We R Who We R, Ke$ha, Cannibal: This anthem from three years ago is still relevant! It is empowering and humorous, and hella fun to dance to!

Piece of Me, Britney Spears, The Circus: It’s Britney, bitch. She gets at all the paparazzi in a major way in this song, letting everyone know that she isn’t just a piece of meat for them to tear apart at their leisure. The sentiment rings true, even if you aren’t famous.

Can’t Hold Us Down, Christina Aguilera feat. Lil’ Kim, Stripped: This song from Xtina’s hip-hop phase (which I completely forgot about until today) makes an explicit commentary on sexism and still manages to be catchy.

How To Be a Heartbreaker, Marina and the Diamonds, Electra Heart: The reversal of standard hook-up culture gender roles in this catchy electro-pop song makes it both empowering and and awesome.

Video, India.Arie, Acoustic Soul: This song is an oldie but goody. It is chill and relaxed as it systematically cuts down sexism in the music industry.

Irreplaceable, Beyonce, B’Day: Bey tells it how it is in this classic girl-power song. Moral of the story: you can get any fish in the sea.

Beautiful, Christina Aguilera, Stripped: The gorgeous vocals and deep soul behind this song will make it a classic for decades to come. If you are ever feeling down, just let Christina feed your soul.

Stronger, Britney Spears, Oops! I Did It Again: Your favorite former-Mousekateer does it again with this song, proving that all those times other people made us feel awful really just made us stronger.

U + Ur Hand, P!nk, I’m Not Dead: Closing out the list is my fav, once again. P!nk is an awesome woman, and many of her songs attack sexism and society’s view of women. If you haven’t already, check out her latest album, “The Truth About Love.” It doesn’t contain a single bad track.

This playlist is best enjoyed with a glass of pink moscato and your favorite hairbrush microphone.

Stay sexy, St. Olaf,

H.
