Hall-Ole-Ween: Halloween Costumes in Your Dorm Closet!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Olaf chapter.

Halloween is a great time to get out of your comfort zone and try something different. You may be too old to go trick or treating but you’re never too old to dress up. I love dressing up for Halloween because it’s fun to be creative and wear something you wouldn’t wear on a daily basis or try out a cool makeup look. Costumes can get pretty pricey so there’s nothing better than utilizing the clothes you already have. Here are a few easy costume ideas that are simple to create with articles of clothing and accessories you most likely already have in your closet.

Rosie the Riveter

All you need to recreate this iconic look is a denim or denim look-a-like shirt, some black pants/leggings, combat boots/any shoes, and a red bandana for your ponytail to finish it off. And don’t forget to show off those muscles!

Disney Princess

Recreating a Disney princess look isn’t as hard as it seems. For example, Snow White would consist of a yellow skirt, a blue top, and red headband. Mixing up the iconic colors will help showcase what character you are. And of course, an apple from the Caf is a must. Belle is fairly simple as well. Use any denim/blue dress you have and tie a white apron (an easy DIY!) and ta-da! Belle costume in two seconds. Don’t forget the books (school textbooks work too!) and the lightly curled ponytail to complete the look.

Cowgirl/Scarecrow

To be a cowgirl, all you need is any plaid shirt, jeans, cowboy boots, and a nice hat to top it off. For the scarecrow look, get rid of the hat and add some blush and marks to recreate the face of a scarecrow.

Arthur

This is a major throwback costume! To create this aardvark-inspired look, all you need are some circular glasses and a yellow sweater. Add some DIY felt ears and you will have created your fave childhood character.
