Cooking on Campus: Oreo Balls

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Olaf chapter.

For this week’s recipe, I decided to make my version of Oreo balls. I always knew of Oreo balls as these decadent, rich, cream cheese based balls until my sister-in-law made them with frosting instead of cream cheese. After tasting the frosting-based Oreo balls I became an Oreo ball fanatic.

Using frosting makes these sinful little snacks so much more delicious because the cream cheese is so rich, I feel sick after eating just one. I made two batches over the weekend when some friends were visiting and they absolutely loved them.?

Oreo balls are the perfect kitchen dorm dessert because they involve no baking, no tools besides your hands, and the ingredients are cheap. All you need is a box of Oreos and a can of frosting. If you want to add another layer of deliciousness you can dip the balls in melted chocolate, but I enjoy eating them without chocolate and dipping them in chocolate takes more time. My pictures do not do Oreo balls justice, but I promise you these will be one of the best deserts you will ever eat.

All you need is:
– 1 box of Oreos
– 1 can of white frosting

1. Start by crushing the Oreos.
You can do this by placing the Oreos in a plastic bag and hitting them with something hard, or you can use a food processor. Depending on which process you use to crush the Oreos the balls will have a different look and consistency, but the taste should be pretty much the same. Using the food processed Oreos makes the balls easier to mold and they look prettier, but either way is just fine! ??

2. In a bowl mix the can of frosting and Oreos until completely combined.

3. Roll the mixture into little balls, and freeze or refrigerate until ready to serve.

Enjoy!
