Cooking On Campus: Holiday Recipes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Olaf chapter.

Finals week is finally upon us. Everyone is busy preparing for finals as thoughts of Christmas vacation dangle tauntingly just out of reach. I have moved into my temporary home, tucked away in a corner of the library, and am busy writing papers and preparing for finals, leaving little time to make a recipe for this week’s blog post. So, instead, I want to share some easy holiday recipes that you can impress your family with over break. From appetizers to desserts, there are many easy recipes you can make to dazzle your family. If you have never contributed an appetizer or dessert to a family get together, break out of your shell and try one of these easy recipes!

Here are some recipes to try:

Cranberry Salsa: A tangy mix of cranberries, cilantro and onion on a block of cream cheese. Takes minutes to make and is served with crackers. http://www.yourhomebasedmom.com/cranberry-salsa/

Baked Brie: One of my previous recipes consisting of brie topped with brown sugar, dried cranberries and walnuts, all baked in a bed of puff pastry. I have yet to meet someone who didn’t love this recipe. A sure hit for any holiday get together. http://www.hercampus.com/school/st-olaf/cooking-campus-holiday-baked-brie

Chocolate Almond Breadsticks: This is a Pioneer Woman recipe, so you know it’s good. Thin Italian breadsticks dipped in a Nutella and milk chocolate mixture, sprinkled with almonds. http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2009/11/quick-and-easy-crispy-chocolate-almond-sticks/

Peppermint Cookie Bark: White chocolate bark filled with crushed Oreos, pretzels, marshmallows and candy canes. One of my favorite holiday treats.
