We’ve just about made it to the “most wonderful time of the year”, a time for building snowmen, sledding, and packing snowballs! These are the activities that really make winter break special – but, they unfortunately also lead to dry hair, chapped lips, and less than smooth hands. Yes, it’s going to be a long, cold winter, but don’t let that stop you from having fun! Here are my five favorite beauty tips to make it a long, cold season of looking your best!

1. Mittens

Wearing gloves or mittens every day is absolutely essential because they will prevent your hands from becoming dry and cracked. I never leave the house in the winter months without throwing some on.

2. Vaseline

Vaseline is truly a miracle substance. It heals chapped lips and dry hands and can even act as a sort of shield against the cold. I like to put it under my eyes on particularly cold days because I find that it keeps me warmer and helps keep my skin moisturized.

3. Sunscreen

This one may seem strange in the winter. We dream of the sun all season long, after all! This tip is extremely important, however, because the sun is in fact always there along with its infamous UV rays just waiting to damage your skin. The way I see it, if you are inevitably going to damage your skin, it might as well be while having fun in the sun, rather than unknowingly on a cold winter’s day.

4. Oil

Any breakage caused by the crisp air can be slowed by a hair routine that includes oils of some sort. There are so many to choose from! I suggest trying out different types to see what works best for your hair, but my favorite is castor oil. It is a hair-care must for me because it leaves my hair feeling stronger, fuller, and shinier, especially in the winter.

5. Beauty Sleep

Sleep is essential at all times of the year, but especially in the winter months. Sometimes all you want to do is curl up with some hot chocolate, a fluffy blanket, and your favorite movie. And that is totally okay…and advantageous! After so much hard work, it’s nice to wind the year down with rest and long-awaited sleep.
