As a college student, money is not always at my disposal to use for clothing as I wish it were. I have always been a huge online shopper, and especially being in college, you always want to change your wardrobe around. I discovered Poshmark a few years ago, and it has changed my life and the way I buy clothes. It is now one of my primary methods of getting cute new clothes all the time. I also make some cash from Poshmark because I can sell clothes that I no longer use anymore! The money I make from this almost 100% of the time goes into the new clothes I buy from Poshmark. If you have not already downloaded the app, I suggest that you do as soon as possible because it will change your life and not hurt your bank account! Below I have listed five tips for buying on the app as well as five tips for selling to make your Poshmarking experience as great as it can be!

Buying:

  1. Always make an offer!

Making an offer is the best way to save money on the clothes you are buying. You don’t want to settle on the given price because that is the fun of it! I always try to go about five to ten dollars below asking because that is usually a great place to start.

  1. Be sure you don’t already have it in your closet

I am very standard in my style so whenever I go to buy something new I have to make sure it does not already exist in some form in my closet. I have in fact bought clothes that look essentially the same in style and color, which is a waste of money!

  1. Just because its discounted doesn’t mean it’s worth the $$

I know I am a sucker for a good deal and have definitely bought things that were way overpriced even if it was on sale. Just because it is a few bucks off the original price does not mean you should be paying $100 for a top you may only wear once.

  1. Is it your size or do you just want it to be

Poshmark is great because if something sells out from your favorite brand, you can usually find it on the app! However, just because you finally found that one pair of jeans you have always wanted and even though they are only a size smaller than you usually are, does not mean you can wish them to fit! I have bought things that were too small or too big because I just really liked the style.

  1. Be careful of luxury brands

There are some people selling things that are from the more top tier brands that this is very intriguing as a college student looks to save a couple of hundred dollars. However, we live in an age of dupe, sometimes it is very hard to tell if something is really from the brand or if it just is a really good look-alike.

Selling:

  1. Good background

The best way to sell clothes and be successful at it is to have a nice, clean, and neutral background behind your clothes. Whether it is on a mannequin or a hanger you want the attention on the piece of clothing not the poster on your wall behind it!

  1. Reasonable prices

Just because you bought it three years ago for $70 does not mean it is worth $65 now. Always remember people have to pay for shipping as well and if you have worn anything that you’re selling more than once it is best to go a little lower on the price.

  1. Price tags!!

If you ever want to get rid of something you never wore there are two options to select on Poshmark. The first is NWT (new with tags) this means the piece still has its tags on which is a great selling point. There is also new without tags, this you will want to give a description of if you have worn the article of clothing and more.

  1. Solid descriptions

Always give a good description of what the piece of clothing is, what brand it is, and the condition of the piece. Think to yourself, if I was buying this, what would I want to know about it?

  1. Model?

Sometimes people who heart your for sale items will ask you to model them if you have not done so already. This is totally up to you and your level of comfort. You don’t have to put your face in things or you do not have to do it at all. Sometimes it does help with that final push to sell.
